Band concerts here over the summer are particularly enjoyable. Also right next to butterfly world/tropical house.

Great place for the kids. Good food. Use your Leeds card. The garden are near Rounday park so lots to do and see. Good value, takes about 2 hours to get round. Watch out for days closed.

I've been here a lot. It's nice to see how they have improved and developed this site over the years.

Canal Gardens is a beautiful oblong, fountained pond with birdlife and enclosed walled garden adjacent to Leeds' City Council's indoor large themed glasshouse (known as Tropical World, and containing butterflies, lizards, insects etc). This small garden - the pond is known as the "Canal" of the title- is always immaculately kept, with lovely flowerbeds regularly re-planted, and some quieter, more contemplative areas within its' boundary's such as the japanese garden at the rear!! It is always possible to get away from any school parties visiting the indoor attraction, and they tend to stay around Tropical World's entrance anyway due to the two aviary-style enclosures for a small group of tiny monkey's on one side of the glasshouse, and a cage of ring-tail lemurs on the other side. This is a green-flag status park, has a nice cafe at its entrance on Princes Avenue (though for the best cafe you should cross the road into its' sister park - the stunning Roundhay Park, which should have a 5* rating of its' own- and use the Lakeside Cafe!!). Canal gardens has lots of bedding-type plants, a rose garden with close cut small hedging, and on "banks" surrounding the canal lots of perennials, aswell as japanese maples in the rear garden.Jjust 300 yds away from here- on opposite side of road and down side street are the Park Depts' speciality gardens which they are attempting to model on a Giverney/monet style arched walkway (not there yet with this though!!). These are nr to the Roundhay Park small VisitorCentre and the attached recently beautifully restored Mansion House building (used for weddings, a small occasionally open specialist library, and another privately run, and more sedate, up-market cafe and restaurant).
