“Off the beaten track”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

This restaurant was only just spotted last minute by my partner when passing, not very well advertised. The food was very nice but not ever so hot and a little over priced in my opinion at these price I expected a higher quality saying that the scallops were very good! The gentleman waiter was excellent and stayed with our table the whole time, although one of the waitresses had a big ladder in her tights and was generally scruffy looking. The atmosphere was a little dull and it felt like being in a conservatory, you could also see into the hotel lobby which isn't much to look at, as soon as we had eaten we wanted to leave didn't make you feel like staying that and the wine was over priced for the quality. Don't get me wrong I would eat there again but there is room for improvement.

“Top Notch”

Beautiful food, pleasant décor, attentive but not imposing service. Wonderfully fresh seafood and inventive but unpretentious combinations.

“Little bit off the beaten track, but worth it”

Really good steak perfectly cooked with excellent accompaniments. Friendly, attentive service. Good value. Just a little bit quiet in the restaurant.

“Quite Average”
Reviewed 30 January 2014

Attached to the Milford Hall Hotel the atmosphere is undeniably "hotel restaurant". The greeting both from the receptionist as we walked in and from the staff in the restaurant was faultless and a credit to them all.
I was surprised to find that they had a dedicated sommelier which I found a little pretentious - but I'm not a wine buff and this is purely a matter of opinion.
We ordered a sharing platter centred around a hot Camembert. The presentation was OK but the cheese could have been riper and with more flavour.
The biggest disappointment of the evening came with the steaks, apparently sourced from a local butcher. We ordered two different cuts, a 10oz rib eye and a 10oz sirloin. The sirloin was OK but the rib-eye was one of the poorest pieces of meat I've had the misfortune to eat in quite some time. There was a significant amount of gristle and overall it was not as tender as a steak costing £19 should be.
One other (for me) notable item is the chefs apparent love of a full sized tomato rolled in polenta that accompanied every meal. This is possibly one of the oddest accompaniments to a meal I've had in a long time and from a texture / appearance perspective just didn't work for me. It's too large as a single item on the plate and inadequately cooked because of it's size, it actually looks like a scotch egg!. For a restaurant trying to sell upmarket food a few tomatoes still on the vine would have been far classier.
The restaurant market in Salisbury is booming here and restaurants need to do better than this.
