My partner and I stayed at the Legacy Rose & Crown Hotel in Salisbury in March and was incredibly impressed with the staff especially Sarah Shepherd-Jones, the hotel receptionist. She went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. It was our first visit to Salisbury and she spent time supplying us with maps and directions to the local attractions. She was very patient and very approachable.

Booked hotel in local Tourist Information office after arriving in Salsibury with no accommodation booked.

First impression was lovely quiet hotel, room had stunning views of both the river and Cathederal. The room had been upgraded and had a lovely comfy bed, nicely upgraded ensuite and all of the usual, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and even an iron/ironig board.

Reception staff at both check in and check out were very welcoming and helpful, waitress in the restaurant for breakfast was also very efficient and pleasant. Only a continental breakfast but was enough for our needs (full english available for a supplement of £5 per head).

Downside - we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, the restaurant was closed and bar food only available with uninspiring choice of food. There were 2 bars but only one open which was a shame because they had a lovely quaint bar which would have been much nicer to drink in but was shut. A more 'modern' themed bar was available. However we only had a couple of drinks in there, absolutely no atmosphere and the waitress kept disappearing meaning you had to wait for her to return to get another drink. We could have lived with that but ...........

The Room (12a) - There was no soundproofing in the room meaning we were subjected to noise from the people in the room above. We could hear them talking, their TV, everytime they went to the bathroom the sound of the toilet, not to mention the floorboards creaking. I wouldn't even say they were being particularly loud, they were just going about their business (although this seemed to be more tha average during the night!). Consequently we had barely any sleep all night. In fact the last time I had that little sleep in a hotel, it was an 18-30's holiday!

Such a shame, this could be such a lovely hotel but would definately not stay there again purely because we need to be able to sleep at night.

Room Tip: Ask for a 1st floor room not groudfloor.

Stayed overnight in one of the garden suites. The room was at the very end of the hotel in the new wing. The room itself was clean, although quite small and could only just see the river if we strained our head out of the window.
Tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Decent size tv.
The bathroom, although clean bath / toilet / sink had a horrible shower curtain covered in mould and smelt of mildew when you showered, which really was very unpleasant. The window in the bathroom was also completely covered in mould which was a little surprising considering the 4* rating on the door.
The lady on reception was not at all welcoming when we arrived in the hotel. We were left waiting several minutes before she looked up to greet us (finishing off her letter first) and told that we far too early to book in. We actually knew we were early and had wanted to simply register our car in the carpark and to book for lunch in the hotel restaurant, which we then decided not to bother with considering her lack of welcome .
The afternoon reception lady was lovely and really friendly and chatty when we did eventually book in.
Breakfast was in a nice dining area with great views over the river. Was not overally impressed with choice nor with the additional £5 charge if you wanted anything hot to eat.
This hotel was ok for a one night stay in a quaint building, but we wont be going back and wouldnt recommend.

Room Tip: Ask to have a river view in lower number rooms.

Stayed for a couple of nights with group of friends.
Dinner in hotel was good on both eevnings . breakfast offered a decent cold choice followed by individually cooked/served hot breakfast
Service can be variable as they run a tight ship staffing wise.
From our large clean and tidy room in the new part we had a good view of Cathedral and the river and meadows- a very nice spot.
House wine was £19+ a bottle which I think they need to address. £14-£15 would be more appropriate.
Staff all friendly;nice atmoshere.

One night stay on business on a cold February evening. Receptionist was excellent and welcoming - downhill from there. The room was extremely cold - it was actually warmer in the corridor! There was just one radiator under the window, and this was completely covered by thick lined curtains that went right down to the floor. Who designs these rooms? Reception let me have a convector heater - by about 9.30pm the temperature was reasonable.

Dinner - waited almost five minutes to be seated - slow service in general due to just a single waitress for the whole restaurant. Food was poor and very overpriced.

Breakfast was fine.

Final issue - a £4.95 surcharge for paying by credit card. Outrageous.

Room Tip: Try the Premier Inn

My wife and I have just returned from what should have been a nice romantic weekend away to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary , we stayed on a package that we booked a couple of weeks ago, our 1st night was ok but the second night was awful as due to the staff Christmas party being held in the restaurant our romantic meal was to be served at a high table in the bar area which was basically like a pub and open to the general public,so we could have gone to any local pub in any area and had the same so we feel really let down as the setting and ambience of the hotel are fantastic, the rooms are all very clean and very large and comfortable.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Smartly preserved on the outside, and lovely inside. There is a room with an open fire and some sofas that was a lovely place to relax.

The welcome was very pleasant, and the room was gorgeous. We stayed in one of the older rooms, which means you can hear the road by you, but it's not exactly busy, and never woke us up or kept us awake. The room itself was stunning, the beams and the shape of the roof where gorgeous, and the few bits of well chosen furniture meant that you would be comfortable, while in a gorgeous room that had been kitted out very sympathetically for the age of the building.

The bathroom was more modern, with a good sized bath and more than powerful shower. My only little niggle comes here, with the shower as hot as it goes i just didn't think it was quite hot enough, though i do have showers at a heat that would probably cause scalds for someone else, so that's purely subjective.

I would have liked to have had bath robes provided, but again this is personal taste, and if that's the only thing you'd change about a place you can't grumble really.

Loved it and we will be back!

Room Tip: an old room is prettier but the newer will be quieter
