Booked 2 rooms for a night for a family of 4 via Expedia on the same day. On arriving at the hotel reception @ 9 pm, were told the hotel was full and the Expedia reservations had not come through. Were offered the option of a single room with 2 extra beds for the teenagers. We accepted with gratitude!
The kids excitedly ran to the room and by the time my wife and I had arrived there, they had found and killed a spider which they found on the bed. Took a picture as a souvenir!
Few hours later around 11 pm, the phone rang and we were offered the other room. The kids took the offer. Thanks.
Next day morning, at the breakfast, the manager mentioned the episode and apologised. Appreciate it.
The breakfast was ok. Although, the front 2 legs of my chair creaked and gave way (I only weigh 70kgs). Inconspicously replaced it with another one.
On a positive, the ground floor room was decent, the back doors opening into the garden and riverside. The location was good and walking distance to the Cathedral and the city centre.

Room Tip: Make sure you check your room reservations directly with the hotel, especially if it is a late booki...

On arrival we found out there was a wedding going on that day any my heart sank but in fact all was well and we were not disturbed by any late night revellers. Could have been the room we were given was well placed as I was told it was changed from our original allocation. Room itself was large, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was good, didn't have enough staff on duty to keep up with replenishing the buffet and constantly ran out of orange juice, milk, bowls etc but the staff on duty did their best to keep everything as it should be. Our waiter was a very pleasant young man and when the stress subsided the girls on duty were chatty and lovely. Hotel is very well placed to walk into Salisbury city very easily and we managed to park ok but space is limited in the hotel car park. Would go back to this hotel again.

We stayed for two nights and could not fault a thing. We were greeted by a friendly lady on reception when we arrived. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfy and we had doors leading to the river which had great views. The breakfast was very good and kept you going for most of the day'and the staff very friendly. The evening meals where excellent if not a little rich. The hotel was very well positioned for the cathedral and shopping center.Overall we had a great two days holiday and can't wait to stay here again.

Excellent hotel; a 'christmas card coaching inn', well positoned on the banks of a scenic bend in the River Avon. Convenient for the Cathedral and town centre. Good car parking. Rooms were of good size, clean and well-appointed. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent. Staff were very polite and helpful. Good place in stay, - hope the level of recommendations don't make a future revisit difficult.

Room Tip: They are all good...

We stayed for one night 4/8/2013 in this hotel, the last on reception was very nice when we arrived. We ate in the bar that evening and the bar man was very nice and polite. Our room was nice and cozy, nice and modern. It must have been done up recently. The next morning we arrived to breakfast , there was no one serving so we sat down at a table that was set. There was two waitresses on and one of the looked at us and looked very annoyed but said nothing. They did not come near us to take our order for over 20 minutes, at one point we helped ourself to the buffet and the waitresses slammed down a stack of plates beside me and huffed at which point the whole restaurant turned and looked she then proceeded to the kitchen where she banged open the door which loudly hit off the wall. After a long wait I tried to get their attention a number of times. The table next to us were also waiting to be served and were there before us. Eventually the waitress heard us calling and abruptly said we would have to wait as she needed to set another table for breakfast. She had a very bad customer service manner and seemed unable to multitask. The other waitress has a rip in her tights and her skirt was short. Overall they looked unkept and not bothered with the job. The couple beside us also felt annoyed at the wait.

When the breakfast arrived it was very nice and good quality... It really was a pity about the two female waitresses.

Stayed 1 night on the 4th August 2

we stayed at The Rose and Crown for 2 nights. On arrival very friendly and welcoming. Room was also comfy and clean, although the hotel is a little tired in places, but this is all about the location. Being on the river is fabulous, typical River Avon view, and so close to the Cathedral, Harnham Meadows and City. If you want to see it all and not have to worry about parking this is ideal. The hotel provides all the amenities that you may need, provided you like to be relaxed! A very good value hotel with good quality food and friendly staff, especially from reception, I will go back, and I used to live in Salisbury!

Room Tip: ask for river view and look for package deals

My husband and I spent a weekend to celebrate his birthday and could not have made a better choice. We had a beautiful room, with four poster bed and a comfy settee, which made for a very relaxing stay. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening - not particularly cheap, but the food was excellent and worth every penny. I opted for liver and onions, (not terribly exciting to some), but it was fabulously tasty. My husband ordered steak, cooked exactly to requirements. The service was impeccable - attentive enough, without being intrusive. We were decadent enough to have our breakfasts brought to our room each morning, which was worth paying an extra £5 for. The staff are some of the best we have come across, very friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful; the hotel sits on a river and we were blessed with a hot, sunny day, so sitting outside with a pot of tea to read the papers was blissful. The only reason I have rated as very good as opposed to excellent is that there are a few, (very minor), things that could be improved on. There were a few cobwebs in our suite, (I appreciate that is an old, oak beamed room), there was no bin in the bedroom, which made it a bit inconvenient, having to keep going to the bathroom to throw something away and there was very limited toiletries - one tiny bar of soap, one small shower gel and one shampoo is not really enough for two people. Overall though, I would highly recommend a stay. Salisbury is a lovely city.
