arrived, no one on reception. Most rooms are in a 70s modern and very dated wing with no lift to the rooms - don't beleive the photos thats a misleading load of bull****!! Paid well over the odds as bank holiday - telllingly it had rooms available so anywhere decent was booked. We wanted a drink at the bar on arrival evening befre we went to Salisbury Playhouse theatre, as did another couple but the samll residents bar was shut and a wedding underway. We were told if we wanted a drink to go to the bar where the wedding function was on (how ridiculous). 1st morning next day the show mixer tap was jammed on scalding hot. They fixed it in 20 mins as I sat on the bed in a towel and the maintainance guy said it was due to hard water affecting the mixer unit (well check it out before you rent rooms, why dont you!). They discounted the breakfast upon our complaint but all in all this is a 2 star at best and I'm never going back

Room Tip: make sure they tell you are you in the 70s built modern wing of the old hotel part

Dear Guest

Thank you for your constructive feedback in relation to your recent stay I do feel however that your heading of a Dreadfull hotel is somewhat misleading to others. We strive at the hotel to offer a first class service to all our customers and I am sorry If we have not excelled in the service to you.I do hope that you will consider the hotel should you wish to return to Salisbury.

After reading the previous reviews I wasn't expecting much but I was favourably impressed. Our room was the farthest away from reception but the friendly receptionist offered to take our luggage as we were two older ladies. Our standard room had french doors opening out to the side garden and the most magnificant view of the river and Cathedral. Room adequate size and well appointed with everything one would want. A pamphlet described a circular walk around Salisbury which I recommend for everyone to follow - it was delightful! Dinner was average but compensated by friendly staff and again the wonderful setting. I knew it would be a Continental breakfast but there was plenty of choice and a large variety of fresh fruit and a large coffee pot for each person. Easy to park and easy to walk into town. Only niggle - wish there was a table and chairs outside our room to soak in the sun and view.

We held our wedding here on 10th May and had a fantastic experience. All the hotel staff were welcoming and worked hard to make the day flow seamlessly and to time. Particular thanks to Martin who worked with us calmly and professionally over 7 months to plan the day in every detail. The room & tables looked amazing and despite some concerns about space it worked perfectly for our barn dance in the evening. The food was excellent and our guests keep enthusing about how good it was and the evening buffet was beautifully presented and delicious.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights with two other couples. When I arrived no one offered to show me to our room ("it's down the corridor zig-zag around a bit and you'll find it up some stairs"). In fact, throughout our stay, the staff behaved as if they were doing us a favour in allowing us to stay at the hotel. We had a new-ish room (both sets of friends said their rooms were poor). Walking in, it was evident that the carpet had not been cleaned properly. The room was hot, but there was no air-conditioning. Great view of the river, in a very tired building. We paid £160 per night (outrageously expensive for what it is), but were asked if we wanted to 'upgrade' to a 'full' breakfast. Saturday breakfast was brought to an end by a fire practice. When our friends arrived ten minutes late for breakfast on Sunday morning (i.e. at 9.40), they were told no, there was no breakfast available (apparently, what had been left had been "thrown away"), but that they could pay for some brunch.

I thought this type of hotel service was left behing in the 1970s. But no - it is alive and well in Salisbury.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

five double rooms booked on a half board special offer deal several months ago. We all arrived Friday 9th May & left Sunday 11th May. Considering what we paid the deal was exceptionally good value. The hotel is just a short walk away from the cathedral & the old town which is a super place to stroll around. Nothing wrong with our rooms which were clean & well furnished. We all had superb views of the steeple with the river & a lovely flood meadow in the foreground which is so unusual to find close to a town centre nowadays. The staff were attentive ensuring our glasses were always topped up even though they were very busy with a wedding reception in the main bar on the Sat.

Room Tip: the rooms at the back of the hotel certainly have a better outlook although the original rooms have so much character.
