What a pleasant surprise this was. We had booked for an overnight stay to visit Salisbury cathedral and we wished we could have stayed for longer. The hotel is charming with a delightful courtyard, our room was clean and comfortable and everything in it worked, not a given nowadays, we ate in the bar/lounge and felt that the food was on the high end of bar food standards. The staff are all welcoming, professional and friendly and our waitress was a delight. Overall we were satisfied with our stay and although the parking is very limited you are staying in the heart of Medieval Salisbury and it is not as though local parking is free!

Had a work's Xmas meal in Salisbury so needed a place to stay the night. The Hotel was conveniently located. I parked in the nearby public car park (2 mins walk to hotel). Room was okay....decor was a bit outdated, but everything worked. Bed was comfy and the price matched the quality. Breakfast was very good.

Returned this afternoon from a depressing lunchtime visit. My wife and I have been happily visiting the Red Lion for 10 years, usually with friends. Today's lunch for 4 of us, was a disaster on almost all fronts. Whitebait starters were miserable, a minuscule little pile of very tiny whitebait for £4 was a bad start. Then all 4 of us ordered Coronation Chicken filled jacket potato, and waited over an hour before it turned up with no explanation ! It was a good job the beer was good ?
I am afraid to make matters worse, the Coronation Chicken was dryish, as was the jacket potato. This is a very simple dish to prepare ! The response to a complaint was 4 glasses of free fizz.
No serious attempt was made to address these failings. So all in all they have lost some loyal customers and those that decide to give the Red Lion a miss after reading this. I also notice there are no management replies to any Trip Advisor negative reviews ... so they either don't care or they are unaware of these bad reviews. ... not a good sign ! So, sadly it's goodbye Red Lion

We stayed in room 33, the electric radiator was hanging off the wall, the TV was small compared to other hotels and was close to the floor and leaning to one side. The room was old in décor and not the usual standard I would expect from Best Western !!!

This hotel was ok not fancy but clean and tidy and just what you need for a I night stop over while in Salisbury we didn't have Breakfast as we thought £10 each was to much to pay so we didn't bother so cant really comment on that one sorry.
We weren't kept awake by lots of noise as some reviews on this Hotel have said we slept like a baby didn't wake up till 8.00am which was late for us
Car parking can seem to be very expensive £15 for 1 night of Parking but it was safe and locked up for the night so we did have piece of mind That was worth it.

We visited to have afternoon tea. Very disappointed that the mince pies were stale shop packages ones. Would have expected that a quality hotel at Christmas would offer fresh pies. Could have got a whole box of Aldi luxury ones for the price.

My wife's b/day is early December she likes to go away for a Christmas shopping weekend and a nice meal but doesn't want to travel for hours, Salisbury was one place we had never been to before, the hotel is really only a room to wash and change in and sleep. We do not spend much time there, we found the red lion well placed in the town centre, clean and comfortable with polite helpful staff and surprisingly the bar was cheaper than some of the pubs in the town centre and the breakfast was plentiful, Denise enjoyed her weekend so thumbs up!
