A friend booked two rooms for us here. On arrival, I thought he had made a good choice. The hotel is located in an historic building and has lots of charm. On arrival, we learned that the wifi as down temporarily. The staff were not particularly apologetic, and it was apparent that the problem had not just arisen. Eventually, we learned that it would not be fixed for a few days. I was surprised that the hotel did not quickly set up a system for the sitting area near registration, which can be done quite cheaply and quickly. Obviously, it's not convenient to go down to the lounge, but it is more convenient than going to a coffee shop. Alternatively, I would have expected the hotel to offer a nominal voucher that could be used in the bar or restaurant. But the absence of any response was emblematic of the management simply being unconcerned with service. Once we got to our rooms, we discovered that there was no hot water. Again, although it was eventually fixed, it was met with no sense of urgency. It's a pity because in many ways the hotel is lovely and nicely situated, but the lack of service (with a couple of notable exceptions) would prevent me from ever going back.

Visited Salisbury for the first time for one night only and felt very comfortable staying at the best western red lion hotel. The service was excellent, staff very friendly and patient, the room facilities was great, very clean, comfy and I had no problems with operating amenities within it. The location was perfect within good access to the train station, town centre and main town sights.

Highly recommenable.

Everything about this hotel is delightful. The courtyard is alive with tweeting birds in the vines which clad the ancient building. The staff are friendly and the service excellent as are the furnishings and food. Full of ancient curiosities, certainly a haven to enjoy in the centre of a busy city.
We will return.

It was pouring rain as we arrived and it is a little bit difficult to find using our gps and upon arrival the exterior is not exactly over whelming, but once you enter it it like taking a step back in time. Our room was well sized especially our large bathroom. The bed was really comfortable, infact the best sleep I have had since arriving in UK.
We had dinner in the lounge room, a lovely old world room with exposed black Tudor beams. Food was good and a big thank you to Charley for looking after us so well.
A buffet breakfast was included with accommodation and was served in the classic restaurant/ garden room- a very pretty space. Breakfast offered a wide variety of warm dishes as well and cereals, pastries and fruits and was well presented.

My friend and I visited here one Saturday for afternoon tea. I live locally so I have been here a couple of times before. I love this hotel, its full of charm and the staff are welcoming. The afternoon tea with bucks fizz was very nice and there was just enough food, sandwiches, cakes (the mini chocolate gateaux and red velvet cake was our favourites!) and warm scones. The hotel is very pretty and full of character, sitting out in the courtyard when the sun is shining with a beer in hand is perfect. During our visit there were plenty of people ordering food and it all looked delicious. I must go back to try their wider menu!
