Stayed in teh Grasmere Hotel for our wedding anniversary. Overall very nice hotel, and nothing really to complain about or to add to. It was busy as its December party time, its in a good location as only about 10 to 15 mins walk into the centre, but it seemed to miss any atmosphere. The staff were all helpfull and friendly but never any thanks yus or may I help with your bags etc.

This hotel is very conveniently sited just about 10 minutes walk from Salisbury Cathedral and with its own capacious car park and the rooms at the back overlooking the river and the Cathedral itself it offers a very enviable location. The staff I met were attentive and friendly, including at breakfast when all too often you tend to get surly service. My bedroom was well appointed but there were signs of some need for refurbishment with flaky paint on the bathroom ceiling over the shower and a (too!) well worn armchair, a little peeling wallpaper on the staircase and so on. The breakfast room (presumably the restaurant too) is somewhat dated and unattractive, although there is a generous choice of breakfast bits to suit all taste. My rooms was very clean and given the combination of price and location it's easy to overlook the other minor issues, but one hopes these would be addressed by the management sooner rather than later, to avoid this promising establishment to slip into senescence and decay.

The hotel proprietor and his staff were warm and welcoming. Relaxed friendly atmosphere; neat and tidy rooms. Excellent cuisine by superb chef.. Dinner is a must here with a Western and Asian menu. Rooms at back overlook river and Salisbury cathedral and it does not get flooded. Beautiful garden to eat outdoors in Summer by river.

Room Tip: Room overlooking garden, river and Cathedral at back of house

We stayed here 2 nights in November to attend a Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration. As usual nowadays it is staffed by non native English speakers, however all were attentive and easily understood (Just wish sometimes that what looks like a traditional English hotel had English staff but it seems that most don't seem to care for the service industry) and I have no complaints regarding service which was excellent.

We booked in for dinner in the hotel as neither of us fancied going out on a wet and windy night after 5 1/2 hrs travelling to find another eatery. The food was really nice just not the hearty portions I think we'd have preferred from a pub restaurant, & more fancily arranged. I think the prices were probably a bit dearer than a pub restaurant but fair and about what I'd expect for a tourist city. I've lived in Salisbury and am aware that a general markup probably occurs everywhere anyway.

We were first to dine at 7pm and the only negative really is that the hotel's dinner dining room was in their conservatory and it was a bit chilly. The atmosphere picked up once other diners appeared although it still wasn't really warm.

Our own room was well furnished and thoughtfully so for a disabled guest with lower hanging rails, lower baggage rack etc. & very spacious foe anyone wheelchair bound. The bathroom was equally spacious with walk-in shower with spray controlled by a shower curtain. The shower itself was modern with fixed rain shower-head at normal heights and a fixed height lower rain shower head, which could also be handheld; the flip up seat made any disabled person able to fully utilise the shower. An Easy flip stick controlled the two to swap between the two heights.

The disabled rooms were all on the ground floor with easy near access to dining rooms, bar and reception. Altogether a very pleasant stay and recommended. The hotel is only a 20 minute stroll front the centre of Salisbury, overlooks the River Avon and cathedral with super views from the rooms at the rear of the hotel. Ample free parking, with easy access to everything.

Room Tip: Choose one at the rear for superb views
