Unfortunately we could only stay one night on March 17th 2013.
It was our first visit and we loved.
It is dated but it has charm and character and is very comfortable, clean and has a homely feel about it.
All the staff are pleasant and very helpful.
Rooms at the back have a view of the river and some have a view of the river and Salisbury Cathedral Steeple as well.
Rooms 22 and 23 where we were have a private patio overlooking both the above and would have enjoyed reading a our books and papers out there with a cuppa at the start and end of our day. But alias the weather was not good enough for this. A very good reason to return.
We only had breakfast which was nicely cooked and presented. Other guests we spoke to had an evening meal here and said it was excellent.
The only negative point is the bar is expensive being on holiday if only a short one I had an Archers and lemonade and they charged £1.20 for the lemonade which I felt was excessive.
It is 15 minutes tops walking into the city centre via the Cathedral Green passing many old buildings along the way.
Plenty of parking.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have the best views of the hotel gardens, river and the city some also have views o...

Have been to the Grasmere most times I have been to Salisbury, mainly for lunch and have stayed overnight once. Found the room clean, comfortable and spacious. The food has always been fantastic especially the Sunday lunch and so much choice at breakfast!

Went to a birthday party at the Grasmere this weekend and couldn't have had a better time! They had managed to fit everyone in sitting comfortably with plenty of room to mingle, and the buffet tables and dj were well placed but left us lots of room to dance! The buffet itself offered so much food and was so tasty - especially the chicken curry! The staff were excellent at keeping dirty plates and glasses off the tables when we had finished and managed to fit around the guests quietly without grumbling that we were in their way.

There were a few of us who stayed 3 hours after the party had finished and the guy behind the bar didn't grumble even though he had an early start the next day!

What has really impressed me every time I have been to the hotel though is the attention that they pay to my son. Every time we go there I cannot be offered enough for him, special lunches/dinners/desserts that are not on the menu and every staff member has a smile for him and greets him when often it can be quite easy for a child and their needs to be overlooked and as a mother I couldn't be more grateful for the wonderful service.

Babs and Dale are superb at what they do and no matter how busy they are they have a smile on their face, make everyone who walks through the door feel welcome and will always stop and have a chat with you. If you go to Salisbury then this hotel is the place to stay!

Room Tip: Definitely river/cathedral facing rooms if you want a view, but in Salisbury who wants to be in thei...

The location of this hotel can't be faulted. We had a great view of Salisbury across the river and it was only a 10 minute walk to the Cathedral. The hotel looks beautiful from the outside but is quite dark and dated inside. A change of the very patterned 70s carpets would go a long way. Our room was nice, very large, great view and clean though the bedspread did have a few small stains and rips. The bathroom was perfect.

Breakfast was good both mornings and room service was surprisingly cheap. Overall very positive on the food.

All the staff that we encountered were very helpful, providing maps of the area and even printing a voucher for us.

The only negative really was the lack of soundproofing. We could follow the conversation in the next room word for word and there was a dog in a room below us that barked for a long time. Also, very loud music on the Saturday night but it switched off at exactly 11pm so it didn't really disrupt a nights sleep.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for slightly older travellers and if we return to Salisbury I would try it again.

My husband and I have just enjoyed a two night Winter Warmer break at this very comfortable and extremely friendly hotel. We couldn't have been made more welcome by all of the staff. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant on both nights. The menu was varied and the food very well presented. Our room was large, with a huge 4 poster bed and overlooked the river and views of the Cathedral. It was an easy walk from the hotel into the City which was a real bonus. If you want to spend time exploring Salisbury and the surrounding area you couldn't do better that a stay at the Grasmere.

Lovely old hotel on the banks of the river with amazing views of the Cathedral. Short walk to the Cathedral and the city centre over rustic old bridges and past historic thatched pubs.
Clean comfortable and warm rooms, each one slightly different.
Great English Breakfasts.

Room Tip: Two classes of room. The better classes have the nice views from ground floor.
