I was bought here regularly as a child, and now bring my own children. It is great to have such a big open space to run around, and for kids to see the history but without the risk of damage

Having read the book "Sarum" many years ago, I made sure to add Old Sarum to our itinerary during our tour of the UK. The displays set throughout the ruins were very informative and gave a interesting look at Old Sarum through the ages. The site provides great views of Salisbury and the surrounding countryside, and it a wonderful place for a walk. Highly recommended!

We've lived in Salisbury most of our lives and only visited Old Sarum on a couple of occasions.
The place is, of course, in ruins, maybe you could say "it'll look great when it's finished" . There was a time that it was finished, the best part of 1000 years so they say, so to have what remains is fascinating. The ground are well kept and the views are awesome over the surrounding countryside. Take your time strolling around soak up a bit of England.

Old Sarum doesn’t really look like much, just some walls on top of a hill. But take the time to visit, especially on a sunny June morning. A nice walk around the top of the walls provides a wonderful view of the cathedral in Salisbury. When we were there, a group of teenagers were there with their teachers, and it was fun to listen to them talk about the ruins. My husband is limited in his mobility, but was able to walk around the area with little difficulty. There are several flights of stairs, and some uneven ground, but enough interesting signs kept him moving from one place to the next. We passed on visiting the site of the original cathedral, which was quite a walk, and just admired from a distance. Several people were walking their dogs in and around the site, but I didn’t run into any dog droppings. The moat is impressive. Parking is free, and walking around the outside of the site is also free. I think it was about $18 USD to enter. There is a little gift shop with the expected items, and it also sells snacks and drinks. Next to the parking lot are the bathrooms, which were in a reasonable state of repair. We enjoyed our visit very much.

This is a terrific site for a casual walk, and the access provided by paid admission is definitely worth it. In addition, it's good to know that the admission fee helps support historic national sites.
