As we were ending a near two month latest England stay, we headed to EH's Old Sarum site and enjoyed a visit there seeing what is spoken of so well by others here. During our time at the site, we encountered a couple we found engaging.

The wife was struggling with the sun in her eyes, and had commented on needing to get a straw hat similar to my wife's own. As she had little further use for it, my wife offered it to the woman explaining that choice. In her gratitude , they gave us their AIRBNB address and asked them to get in touch next visit. It was often unoccupied and they wanted us to use it as a free self-cater option.

I'm not sure we'll ever take them up on the offer, but it was an amazing deal: a gifted and slightly used L5 sun hat for a however many days' free lodging. Charming people, amazing offer!

Really interesting site just 10mins outside of the city. Excellent, informative boards as we walked around with a good guide book to buy if you fancy more info. For us, we would not have visited if we could not have taken the dog, so thanks.
Staff were superbly friendly and welcoming - it makes such a difference.

Great place to spend the day. Staff were really helpful. I thought the kids might be a bit too young (3&5) but they loved it.

Well worth a visit

What a 'trippy' place to go. After seeing documentaries on it, being there, in real life, was quite the experience. Stellar views, wind whipping across the plains, huge old trees on the property, and the ruins really added atmosphere to the whole experience. We history geeks love this sort of place.

We often have a walk around some of the ruins. The edging can be a little rocky and the path is slim in places. Great place to bring young children, dogs but there is alot of walking envolved.
There is a spacious carpark with public toilets. The views are amazing on a clear day and worth a look.
The national trust run old Sarum so there is a charge for the main viewing area.
You can bring a picnic but please either take your rubbish home or use bins provided.
