“Lunch”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2013

Stopped for lunch. The waitress was helpful and attentive, However, when they were not able to serve what we wanted and we decided not to stop this time, the owner, well thats what she sounded like was rude, brusk and argumentative. I will not be returning.

“Surly service long waits and over heated food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013 via mobile

The staff could not have been less welcoming. They forgot to take our order for either drinks or food, we had to find them. The wait for the food nearly caused us to walk out. It wasn't as if they were busy. When the food did come it did look homemade, but one bite proved it to be super heated from the microwave, hot enough to take the roof of your mouth off. Once it was cool enough to eat the taste was bland. No flavour at all.

“salisburys best kept secret.”

called in for lunch with my wife, what a lovely find. clean, comfortable, very welcoming staff and our lunch was excellent and really good value at £5.95.On paying the bill,we were given a thank you, in the way of a voucher for a complimentary glass of wine, should we wish to return and try the evening dinner menu. We did, last Friday evening, the crispy duck with orange ginger and whisky sauce was to die for and my wife had the biggest piece of battered cod, hanging over the plate, she said it was the nicest she had ever had anywhere. What a cracking place, so easy to drive by and miss it, but worth turning around for if you do. Well worth the drive up from ringwood. We will be back with our friends. this place has it all, excellent food, nice happy welcoming staff, lovely decor and atmosphere,as well as offering great value.

“Great find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2013

It was raining, we were fed up and on our way to Ringwood from Salisbury where we couldn't find any parking and were hungry for some lunch. Then we saw the Stag and what a find it proved to be. What a clever idea having a lovely cafe inside a pub. We found it warm and welcoming with the cake counter being the first thing we saw on entering. It was about 1.30 so we ordered lunch and I also had a cappuccino whilst waiting. My husband and I both chose the Chicken a la King from the board and were delighted with our choice. It was home made and very tasty, my husband then had the spicy fruit sponge with custard which we both sampled, again home made and delicious. The whole bill with drinks only came to £20 which was excellent value for money. This cafe/restaurant deserves to do well and if we lived in the area would not hesitate to return on a regular basis. The staff were kind, helpful and efficient and the whole place had a lovely ambiance. Well done!

“Its true they cook to your way or liking............”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2013

My sister kindly booked the table, 2 birthdays and a wedding aniversay to celebrate. 6 of us in total, 2 who had walking sticks, and we needed a bit of space. Which we were given. Great seating which we were very happy with

When it came to the food we all had different ideas of what to eat. In fact we ordered 4 different main courses and they were delivered to the table at the same time - piping hot and not only that - Im allergic to garlic and was desperate to have the green lipped mussels - which usually come in a garlic sauce - the chef proved the food is "cooked just for you" I could not stop smiling when brought to the table "mussels no garlic" OMG they were the best mussels ive eaten in a very longtime, big green lipped, yummmm. The men worked their way through pork and chicken and homely steak pudding.....Everyone strugggled to choose just one item from the menu which is very sensibly priced, shame we couldn't have all shared, but I would have kept my mussels just for me!

The Stag has a homely comfortable feel, you feeel like you are in someone's home, no standing on ceremony and quiet discreet service, nothing is too much trouble and if you are just going to read the paper and drink coffee, and indulge in some sort of cake or sweet.

Whatever you do - slow down, turn left or right depending on which way you are travelling and dont miss the Stag , will certainly return and recommend.

Thank you for making us feel very welcome, and that nothing was any trouble.
