Arundells, the home of Sir Edward Heath in Salisbury's cathedral close is a hidden gem amongst Salisbury's magnitude of places to visit.
The home is managed by a trust outside of national bodies such as English Heritage or The National Trust.
The home is hosted by volunteers who take every trouble to give you as much attention as you wish. So if you just want to browse and wander around you can, or if you want to know more about one of Britain's elder statesmen then take advantage of these people's intimate knowledge of him.
The home truly feels intimate and one gets the feeling 'Ted' is still around the place, maybe just having left the room as you enter.
The house is filled with treasures from his life, places he went to, people he'd met and stories of his life as captain of Morning Cloud, his racing yachts, he had more than one!
Beyond the house lies the garden, a visit in its own right. The garden leads down to the River Avon and to get there you are led through different styles of garden each with specimen planting and statues that make you stop and stare.
This is a visit well worth repeating and the entrance fee includes a free return trip if taken within the same calendar year. This really is a five star attraction.
