“Marvelous hosts, comfortable rooms”
Reviewed 29 June 2011

We stayed here 3 nights as a base to explore Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Lacock, etc. The hosts treated us and everyone else like longtime friends, greeting everyone at breakfast. The breakfast included incredibly fresh, locally grown berries that were the best we ever tasted. Rooms overlooked the garden or adjacent cricket field, where lads of 10 or so were playing after school. The hosts moved an extra bed into our sons' room so they wouldn't have to share a bed. We got a treat of water bottles, always helpful, on check-out, plus some extra cookies of the same kind provided in the rooms. A great location especially for anyone with a car, away from the cramped city center.

Room Tip: Book online well inadvance

I stayed at The Cricket Field House Hotel for one night with my friend on Sat 18 June on our way to the New Forest.
It was spotless and immaculate (cannot understand the few comments saying otherwise) and I found the staff and management to be very friendly and courteous - well the waitress at breakfast was Polish so that says it all!
The rooms were so clean and cosy - shower was a bit teeny!
Breakfast was fantastic, well replenished and the hot stuff cooked to order.
A few small points to mention as follows:
1. We couldn't find anyone about after about 8pm when we needed a member of staff.
2. I spotted a small cosy lounge by the breakfast area when eating our breakfast and was surprised that the owner hadn't pointed this out to us on arrival as we didn't know it was there until we were leaving. It looked so inviting and it would have been nice to sit there when we got back from visiting Salisbury early evening especially as the weather was horrid. We sat in the lovely garden for an hour and then went back to our room from about 8ish which was fine but the lovely sitting area would have been even nicer.
3.Also I was a bit surprised to find no bar facilities and evening snacks were not served Fri, Sat and Sundays - only Mon to Thurs evenings. As per previous comments I would definitely have put this accommodation down as a Bed and Breakfast not a hotel albeit a very high standard B and B.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a long weekend break. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Brian (the owner) and one of his two dogs and shown to our room (no 7) which looked out onto the courtyard. Brian was very helpful and friendly - offering some useful advice on how to get into Salisbury without getting caught in all the traffic and one-way system.

Our room was immaculate and very nicely decorated. The bathroom was spotless - the cleanest hotel one that I have ever seen. The room had all the usual essentials - tea and coffee facilities, shower gel, shampoo, hairdryer, etc. One thing that really stood out was how quiet it was - even with other guests walking past outside. The only slight downside was that there was a light just outside the window and the curtains weren't thick enough to block out the light during the night - however this didn't affect us but might be one to watch if you are a light sleeper.

Moving on to breakfast - where do I start? The staff were really friendly, giving us a cheery good morning when we walked into the dining area. There was an excellent selection of cereals, muselli, fruit, yoghurt and fruit juice - which you could help yourself to. The cooked breakfast was excellent - the locally sourced sausages were some of the best I have ever tasted. Their bacon was also good - especially when cooked nice and crispy (as requested by my wife). The portions were just right.

Finally, the garden was beautiful and very peaceful. There were a number of ducks wandering around or paddling in the pond (I think eleven in total). We spent a fun forty minutes or so throwing sticks for the two dogs - the larger one gave the impression that he could spend all day doing this and not get tired!

Overall, it was an excellent stay and we will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere was very much a home from home and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The location is perfect for going into Salisbury or heading up to Stonehenge.

This is the cleanest, most comfortable B&B I have ever stayed in (and I've stayed in plenty!). I defy anyone to find fault with Cricket Field House. Excellent breakfasts, excellent service, superior cleanliness, friendly staff and a lovely location. Worth every penny.

Room Tip: Room 12 is lovely

We stayed here for a wedding and were absolutely delighted with our room , the lovely breakfast and the friendly welcome we received from the owners .Nothing was too much trouble and the owner went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed from papers to a flask of fresh milk for our tea .The room was very comfortable with a lovely view over the cricket field and a match to watch when we arrived .Our only regret was not having enough time to sit and enjoy the beautiful garden and we will definitely come back as soon as possible .The situation is perfect ..close enough to the city to be handy for the shops but on the outskirts so access to the lovely countryside is quick and easy . Perfect !

Room Tip: Room number 12 had the most lovely bed!

My boyfriend and I stayed in Room 12 for one night and were very impressed with this B&B. The room was beautifully decorated, and we had an excellent breakfast. The location was perfect for us, as we wanted to visit the Cathedral and Stonehenge. Would definitely recommend as nothing was too much trouble!

What a lovely surprise, a very good hotel at a reasonable price with excellent service. Snoopy the dog and his Yorkie friend were wonderful, and very well behaved, and the ducks very funny. Perfect for my business needs, the evening snack menu was great for a solo traveller and the wi-fi wasn't expensive either....will be back!
