A young developing museum staffed entirely by enthusiastic knowledgeable volunteers many of whom have direct links with Boscombe Down which has been at the fore front of Britain's aviation advancements since it's creation in 1917. The museum focuses on some of the greatest leaps in aviation history - the jet age. They operate a friendly hands on approach allowing visitors to clamber in and out of jet cockpits to get a feel for what it was like to be a pilot flying these machines.

The museum can be found alongside Old Sarum airfield a short drive off the A345 Salisbury - Amesbury road.

A wonderful display of (mostly) fighter cockpits and instrument layouts. As everyone else explains there seems to be a never-ending supply of enthusiasts available to talk to you about the exhibits. Without these enthusiasts most of these exhibits would have been consigned to the scrapyard years ago, which would have been a crime. This attraction is ideal for teenage children who can sit in fighter cockpits and imagine they are flying at high speed and doing all sorts of clever aerobatic manoeuvers! Indeed some of the exhibits have been fitted with noise generation equipment which simulate the noises that would occur when 'flying' these veteran machines.
The old Link Trainer has been setup to allow any budding pilot to try his hand at flying an aircraft using instruments only; it is worth recording that this was my instrument flying trainer when training to be an airline pilot some 50 years ago!

“Fun afternoon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

We spent a super afternoon here with old friends who we took on a suprise visit. We were well looked after by the friendly staff and Peter Bryant who gave us a little talk and showed us around. He had an excellent knowledge of all the aircraft and the stories behind them. We were able to sit in the cockpits and have a go on the simulator. It was a very educational and fun afternoon and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who hasn't visited there before.

“Truly wonderful visit.”

The museum is run by enthusiastic volunteers, most of home have seen service action in aircraft much like in the museum, so they really know what they are talking about.
They get the right balance of telling you interesting facts and anecdotes but also letting wander around, climbing into cockpits and playing with switches!
Great day out.

“A great little aircraft museum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

This is a great place to visit! All of us really enjoyed the experience and the staff were so friendly and helpful. There is a really interesting selection of aircraft and visitors are encouraged to try all the cockpits out. There's also a link trainer giving anyone a chance to safely crash an aircraft! Highly recommended.
