Hmmmmmm, so this pub has apparently sacked its chef and suddenly disparaging reviews appear, despite the quality improving dramatically as a result. A coincidence? I think not. This pub is wonderful, the food is top draw. We eat in here as a group once a week and know the menu well as a result. As for the couple running it they've been in the pub for some years I believe and are running the most successful pub in Salisbury, suggesting they don't know what they are doing is ill informed and frankly absurd. One would just have to walk in to see how popular this pub is to see how well it is run and how inaccurate the previous two reviews are. Strange comment made about the brewery getting new managers as well, I'm fairly sure this isn't a managed house so yet more ill informed logic. If the pub were being run badly people would stop going there and the current landlady would be forced to close. It has recently been renovated, given a lick of paint, the dead wood removed and I've never seen the place busier, a vibrant fun crowd of all ages. Anybody who "knows Salisbury" would know the great and good of the city use this pub, Salisbury rugby, both players and VP's, South Wilts Cricket, again both players and VP's. Business owners, youngsters on nights out, office workers, tourists visiting the cathedral all congregate together, share laughs and enjoy the fantastic garden and open fire pit.

Have known this particular pub for along time and followed its chequered history. Such a shame that the landlord and landlady who are currently there, are obviously not capable of running ANY establishment, let alone one in such a prominent position. Do not have a clue about customer service, which these days is paramount. The brewery really need to put into action, not just staff training, but also look for an alternative in management, otherwise there will be a fast decline, not just of customers, but obviously the follow on..takings! Menu was not as stated, wanted to put further charges on, but the worst, was their unbelievable attitude after questioning same!
They just lost themselves not only two customers, but also any further business by two people 'who know people' in Salisbury. Not their finest hour!

We arrived, with 15 mins before food time closed. I chose the Lamb and my partner the slow cooked pork. The food was awful two 'bits' of lamb off cuts and a pyramid of shredded lamb on an orange puree??with new potatoes (sliced?).
Pork looked anaemic!
Asked for WIFI Password but was told it was only for Guests only!
Hall and Woodhouse should take a look at this place!

Good friendly welcome on arrival at this really old pub in the centre of Salisbury. Not busy but the main restaurant room at the back was busier. Our order was taken quickly and efficiently and the food arrived in a timely manner. The home made fish cake was delicious and was full of fish. Perhaps the skinny fries could have been replaced by hand cut but I enjoyed the meal My wife had a bacon and brie baguette which was nicely presented with fries and salad - much enjoyed. Although nothing stunning, was enjoyable in a lovely old building.

Went to salisbury and trolled the net for a good place to eat. Grest welcome...fair drinks pricing...lively old pub. Just do sad that the meal was so poor. The pie had credit card thin pastry on it..could not taste the pastry. The meat filling was lovely, peas. Well they are just peas...but i was stunned the the 4 yes 4 thumb size chips that were the last part of the meal. All for just under £11. I felt robbed and left hungry after my kiddie meal...The cost of the meal to the pub would have been tiny but the profit robbingly big...Such a shame. If you want a decent meal for your money go anywhere else...even Burger king and you wont feel cheated.
