“Great as Travelodges Go”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

This was a great Travelodge. Clean, conveniently located, comfortable bed, great shower. Very basic, but that's a Travelodge. There was no temperature control in the room so it was pretty warm at night as it was July and in the high 20's. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only issue was that the food from the bar was not very good - obviously heated in a microwave and was pretty unappealing. But everything else was fab, I'd stay here again if I was traveling on the cheap.

It was a bit noisy when the pubs closed. We had to have the windows open as it was so warm so we had to endure lots of whooping and yelling from the punters leaving the pubs.. Also lots of traffic noise on our side of the hotel as it was on a major road. If it's cool out though with the window shut I don't think you'd notice this.

Room Tip: I'd look to get a room that wasn't overlooking the main road if you are bothered by traffic...

The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. I have stayed in hotels charging double the price but not up to this standard of cleanliness. The room was pleasant, light and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful; if they didn't know the answer to a question about the local area they were happy to look it up for me on the internet. The only downside is that the hotel does not supply maps of Maidenhead; I find paper maps easier than on-line ones.

No air con makes it very stuffy, especially in summer. If you open the window for air you'll be subjected to the sound of trains running all night and the sound of drunk people shouting, swearing and fighting outside the pub next door. If you value a good nights sleep then stay somewhere else!

We are sorry to learn you were unhappy with the temperatures in your room Georgina G. This particular hotel does not provide air conditioning however in an attempt to ensure our guests have a comfortable stay during the hotter months we do offer fans at reception, subject to availability.

Have stayed at the Maidenhead TL many times because of its convenient location and the plus points are that the rooms are very clean and comfortable (having been fairly recently refurbished and the hotel is not that old anyway), staff friendly and the hotel is ideal for Maidenhead town centre and the railway station right opposite.

Downsides are the lack of a car park, meaning that you have to stay at a multi-storey down the road and round the corner - probably not ideal for women on their own and also costs £4.50 per night on top of what is already not one of the cheapest TLs.

The other is noise. Many have mentioned the road traffic at the front but this is preferable to staying at the back or Queen Street side of the hotel where you will be awoken at 6am by the sound of crates being loaded and unloaded from a truck into the ground floor Sainsburys. This lasts about half an hour, so you are well awake at the end of it. A shame because otherwise this would be one of the best TLs.

Room Tip: Get an inward facing room.

We stayed at this travel lodge having booked a family room for 2 nights to visit legoland, Windsor. It was ideally situated 5 miles away and reasonably priced. We were allocated a family room on the 1st floor facing the busy road junction. The noise was unbearable as the hour got later from cars on the dual carriageway outside. It was so loud that on the hot evening we were unable to open the window. The pub close by added to the issue with late night drinkers walking past. As a result the room was uncomfortable and none of us slept. The following day after I complained we moved to the third floor. This was slightly better in relation to road noise but still too noisy to open the window. The breakfast that we paid extra for was reasonable, nothing special but adequate. The room itself was spacious with plenty of room for the double and 2 singles and the bed comfy. Whilst the location may suit some, i.e very central and close to rail station I would say it is very noisy at weekends and avoid rooms facing main road at all costs. The staff were helpful and apologetic however I would not recommend this hotel and would not return.

We decided to give Travelodge another go after hearing about the upgrades and this was the first one we tried, staying for 2 nights. The room was clean and had a comfortable bed, two pillows etc The staff were without exception welcoming and helpful. We took advantage of an excellent continental breakfast with plenty of choice all for £1.95 each. There was a car park nearby as we wanted a break from driving. A bargain at £4.50 for 24 hours. Also only across the road from the mainline station. An ideal base all round. For a budget hotel near to London I would recommend without hesitation.

Room Tip: Probably at the back of a hotel.

We had room 319 towards the back of the hotel. It was clean enough but quite stuffy so we needed to keep the window open. And that meant that it was EXTREMELY noisy. So bad that neither of us slept at all well. Staff were friendly though and it's a very good location close to station and shopping centre. Breakfast was awful and not worth the £13.50 we'd paid for two. My advice would be, don't book breakfast - there are plenty of places where you can get something which more closely resembles breakfast.
