“Very pleasantly surprised!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

Like many of the other reviewers, we booked 3 nights at this hotel through a groupon deal. After reading the reviews we were not sure what to expect...but what a pleasant surprise!

We were met at reception by a very polite and helpful guy named Oliver (he is also barman, waitor and anything else that is asked of him!), who also booked us in for dinner that evening. Ok, so the rooms could do with some updating (which they are currently in the process of doing) but it was clean and pleasant and very quiet considering its location on the main Bath Rd. The food was excellent with very generous portions, we dined there 2 out of our 3 nights, and the breakfast was lovely and cooked to your liking (i.e. scrambled or fried eggs, 1 or 2 sausages or bacon...)

The staff were absolutely fantastic, nothing being too much trouble. For example, my husband does not drink wine so for our free bottle included with the groupon I had a small bottle and my husband had a different drink from the bar to make up for it. They were friendly and helpful, giving advice on the local area with things to see and do. We had a fabulous day in Henley-on-Thames due to a reccommendation from the manager, Lisa.

The hotel is in a wonderful location giving access to lovely places such as Henley, Windsor and Reading.

A big shout out and a massive thankyou to Oliver, Anne, Carl and manager Lisa (who is doing a wonderful job), who helped us to have a truly relaxing and lovely mini-break :o)

just spent 3 days at this hotel;,It was a groupon deal, and we were not dissapointed. We were given a lovely bottle of red wine on arrival and offered a cream Tea, which unfortunatley we couldn't fit in.The staff were very pleasant and helpful, Our room was big with a good size bathroom, After reading other reviews we didn't expect much, but were pleasantly surprised. The location is brilliant for Henley, and Windsor. There are also two very good pub restaurants local, One in walking distance. One in Bath road Knowl Hill. The whole 3 day experience was very rexlazing and stress free,
and it was nice to see happy staff..

When we read the feedback prior to our stay we were concerned that we had made a bad error buying our Groupon voucher. However, these negative feedbacks lowered our expectations and therefore we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Helpful and friendly young man on the reception desk (also doubles up as a waiter.)
Our room was spacious with a comfy bed and clean white sheets. Generally the room/hotel could do with some updating, as the wallpaper/paint is tired in places. The breakfast both mornings was good, and we had fish and chips in the evening which was yummy too. We also received our complimentary bottle of wine.
Television reception was good and the room was quiet at the back of the hotel. Overall we would stay here again if we wanted something on the cheaper end of the scale and the staff were very helpful and polite.
Can't comment on the afternoon tea because we were too busy in town enjoying the sun to head back early.

Just like the earlier review, I booked this through groupon ........it was awful. The rooms are far from luxury, very basic, mould on ceiling above bed and above windows (lots). First days breakfast was very nice, second day was terrible including partially raw sausage. I'm by no means a snob, if a hotel is basic but pleasant and enjoyable, I'll go back and recommend. The fact that the rooms were described as luxury was just beyond belief....awful place, would never go back and would never recommend.

Just returned today from a weekend away here. The staff were excellent couldnt help enough, food was lovely, both breakfast and evening meal. Room was clean and tidy. Great location for exploring Henley on Thames and Windsor.
The only thing i would say is the rooms need a wee bit of TLC but nothing too bad.
Would definatley return.

Room Tip: No swimming pool....

This is the place to go for a relaxing stay, the food is superb although its a shame the restaurant was so quite when we stayed. Our room was very large, overlooking the front, busy A4 road, but with the windows shut you wouldn't know, we opened the bathroom window instead for fresh air at night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We took our dog with us and he was made such a fuss off, he wants to go back!! Littlewick Green is a picturesque vilage cricket green with delightful houses around it, lovely pub there too, its where they film Mid Summers Murders, and stunning walks around the tiny hamlets. River Thames not far, Henley and Hurley, both great places to visit. Would definately go again, right location, right price and fab food and drink, what more can you ask for?
