“Great location, average but good value.”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We stayed here overnight as we had a table at The Fat Duck. The hotel is in a great location right by the Thames (as you probably have worked out from the name), so perfect for a nice evening walk along it, and has a veranda overlooking it. Plenty of parking too, which is included in the rate that we paid for 2 people, which was very competitive. The room was a bit worn and could do with updating, breakfast was a standard buffet. All staff were friendly and helpful. Overall good value, and worth staying for 1 night if you're in the area.

you need the weather to enjoy your stay here, although they didn't open the guest bar till 11 oclock in the morning so you couldn't sit and watch the river or have a cup of tea there was no where for guests to sit and read or just relax . The rooms are small and a bit tired but ok for a short stay our curtains fell down when we pulled them but the bed was firm and clean. The toilet was very noisy so I felt sorry for our neighbours .The food was very good and the staff very pleasant .Will stay again but in the summer I should think a bit gloomy in the winter.

Room Tip: you need a room with a view

I booked here because I wanted something near the river. This is a great location in that respect, but everything else was basic to say the least. Single bed, poor shower, dreadful bedding, no a/c, average breakfast, walls paper thin...won't be going back.

Lovely location, outside looked ok, inside in need of updating. Nobody offered to take cases upstairs and no lift. Very basic accomodation but clean. Wifi hit and miss. Bed very hard, shower not the most powerful. Ok for one night but any more might be a struggle.

Our room was small and stuffy and the bed was uncomfortably hard. The bathroom shower flow was poor and it took forever to get warm water to come through. The sound insulation was also poor and you could hear people walking about on the floor above. Plus points were it was clean. Free wifi. Breakfast, which was OK, was included in the room price, which at £80 for a couple was very reasonable. But because of the bed and shower, both of which could easily be fixed, it can only merit a 3 star.

I live just 2 minutes from this hotel but don't visit often as the ambience is lacking. The bar is comfortable and restaurant done in an Italian style which adds authenticity. The fabulous pizzas are not available at lunchtime as the oven is not switched on due to cost! The restaurant food is nice but I have yet to be there when there was any atmosphere. Staff are friendly and generally attentive. Prices reasonable.

We booked this hotel through last minute.com and the price was very good - it included breakfast so sounded like a good deal . I asked at the point of booking if a river view was possible. We would have paid extra. The location is fantastic right by the water front on a quiet corner. The room I was given had a side on partial view. Clean and of adequate size. The temperature was stifling and there was no thermostat on the radiator - no worries I thought just open the window.. Not a problem during the day .. Outside the window at night there was a very powerful spot light which lit up the outside of the building so the thick curtains needed to be fully drawn to block it.. But the temperature was unbearable as no air could get through from the open window. There was a problem with the toilet - it wouldn't flush and had clearly been repaired before. They must have known it was not working when they gave me this room. To the receptionists credit - she gave me the key to the next door room when I went down to use the foyer toilet early next morning - next room had working loo and a lovely river view. Why couldn't we have had that one if it was empty ? Don't they want happy customers ? The most disappointing part was the breakfast - a buffet of food that had clearly been sitting for hours - rubbery eggs, tinned tomatoes , hash browns wet with condensation , greasy sausage, white toast only on offer and the thing was the chef was on hand in the kitchen - why not cook from fresh ? There was clearly only a few residents. The restaurant is an Italian by night and at the rear of the hotel - desserts were still in the chiller from the previous evening, more evidence that things are not made fresh each day. With such a fantastic location why would you not have the breakfast area looking out at the river? I have a daughter near by and could have become a regular customer and with very little effort this could be a very nice hotel. Shame they let themselves down - we will not be back.
