I cannot recommend this restaurant.
We visited the Shire Horse at the weekend whilst visiting relatives. We live in Germany and were hoping to enjoy a good old English roast. The service was friendly but far too slow. We had our starters which were served in an acceptable time but we were only served our main course after being in the pub for one and three quarter hours despite repeated reminders.
The starters were reasonable but we should have been warned - they were not overly hot. I had the White Bait which was tasty but the tartar sauce was somewaht synthetic and missing the tartness. The scallops were luke warm as was the soup. We accepted that and were looking forward to the main course - this as said took ages to arrive. One of our party of 6 had ordered filet steak which when it arrived was cold. The plate was taken away and 'warmed up'. What was supposed to be medium rare ended up well done! I had the lamb from the "Sunday Best" menu with cauliflower cheese. Nothing on the plate was really hot, the cauliflower had no real taste and the Yorkshire pudding was like leather (as a Yorkshireman I could have cried). I was glad to get some extra gravy which was hot which helped improve it a bit (although the waitress nearly forgot to bring the extra gravy too!). My wife had the beef lasagne. You would think one couldn't do much wrong here but it also was not really hot and the "dressed slaw and baby gem lettuce" turned out to be a bit of decoration on the side. We all decided to give up at this stage and not risk another hour of waiting for any desert.
The pub was busy but this is no excuse. The management really needs to sort out their processes so that food is served timely and at the required temperature.
We did get some reduction on the bill for the long wait but this is small compensation for a disappointing meal.
