We stayed at Red Roofs at Oldfield on August 9th. We wanted something close to Heathrow, for easy rental car return and a short trip to the airport.
Red Roofs is a late 1800's mansion that sits right on the Thames. We were awed by the main room and staircase as we entered the house. The dining room has double french doors that open to the fabulous back yard, sloping down to the Thames. The owners and their staff were exceptional in their friendliness, kindness and helpfullness. Each room (it appeared) was themed, and furnished with beautiful pieces of furniture and wall hangings. Our room had the most comfortable bed that we slept on for our entire trip through England and Ireland. In fact, it may be the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on, with the possible exception of a wonderful bed in the Pollard hotel in Red Lodge Montana.
Breakfast was magnificent, as the breeze blew in through the open french doors. A walk through the back yard, enjoying the unique plantings and gardens was a perfect morning relaxation.
We wish our stay would have been for several more days (and thanks to the terror alert, it nearly was). Next time we travel to England, Red Roofs will bookend our trip.
