“Not a traditional English B&B”
Reviewed 28 August 2013 via mobile

Our problem here was that this is not a traditional English B&B and if that is what you are expecting (as we were), you will be disappointed (as we were). Alma House is more like a low star hotel in that it is basic, impersonal, small, a little shabby and lacking in many personal comforts. This was emphasised for us having just moved on from a delightfully traditional B&B in the midlands where the comforts were many and the hosts enriched the experience.  The location here is reasonable, but the parking arrangements are difficult.  The tariffs were lower than the nearby competition and I guess, in the end, you get what you pay for. Our fault for not researching this better before booking.   I was really quite surprised at the high ratings when I re-read the reviews which drew us here in the first place.

Thank you for your recent review and apologies that you did not enjoy your stay with us.

Here at Alma House we work hard to provide a friendly service with stylish and comfortable rooms in a great location just minutes by foot from Windsor town centre. I'm really sorry that you found the parking situation difficult. Being town centre there are some limitations with parking but we endeavour to offer a parking space to each room - I'm sorry if this was not your experience.

As you say, we are competitively priced - our website shows candid and current room pictures and we have room plans on there too so guests can see the size of the room and the facilities offered prior to booking. We regularly review our decor and facilities and thank you for pointing out concerns about your room which we will attend to in the very near future.

I hope that you had a safe journey home and have some wonderful memories of your visit to the UK.

I found this place on laterooms the day before arrival. The room was lovely and included everything you could possibly need. The breakfast is already in the room ready for the morning which is very convenient and there was plenty to eat. The member of staff who showed us the room was very friendly, and you could really tell they cared about their business and wanted the customers to be happy, with things like a print out of the weather forecast on the bed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This was a lovely B&B, really well presented with everything you could need. You serve breakfast yourself in your room, from a selection of cereal and toast etc. Very clean, with fresh towel and toiletries provided..It is also only 10 mins walk from the centre of Windsor. Good vaule for money and a lovely stay!

Comfortable room with small selection of books and movies. Breakfast choices included toast (white or wheat), muffins, jam, orange juice, milk, tea, hot chocolate, coffee, apples and yogurt supplied in our room so we could eat whenever we wanted. Toiletries amply supplied. Ironing board in room. Great location, short walk to Windsor town shopping street center (including restaurants and cafes) as well as Windsor Castle itself. We had a wonderful stay!

'We were a family of 4 traveling with our teen girls. The Alma Cottage as well suited for our needs. Convenient location, clean, nice breakfast and helpful staff. It was within walking distance of the heart of Windsor. Parking was an issue and we chose to park on the street to avoid the hassle of moving our car whenever someone needed to get out. Street parking between 8 pm and 8 am was free but we had to go out in the morning and pay for two hours. That was our choice and parking was available for free in the Alma House drive.

Room Tip: Alma Cottage was perfect for a family

I stayed for 2 weeks on a business trip - single room no. 4. Comfortable and clean. Small bedroom but equal sized ensuite. Fantastic location. Take care with the parking - it's stacked parking so if you leave you car for the day, you also leave your car keys so staff can move cars around to get them in and out. Free on-road parking from 20:00 to 08:00 so use if you need to leave early. Not a traditional B&B as a simple continental breakfast is restocked in the room each day. I preferred this as I wasn't bound to breakfast times and could come and go as I pleased. The walls are thin - whether this is an issue depends on how considerate your fellow guest are. I was frequently woken by doors slamming as guests arrived late or left early. No frills but excellent value for money and would stay again if I was in Windsor.

My fiance and I stayed on a one night stopover. The room had everything we needed for our trip. It was clean, tidy and more than comfortable. Better than many so called 'higher class' establishments we have stopped at around the country at a fraction of the price. Moreover, I can report that the staff, from the 'meet and greet' team to the cleaners, were very friendly, efficient and helpful and they were all happy to go the extra mile to ensure our stay was pleasurable. I am happy to recommend the Alma to anyone.
