When we arrived to check in after 2pm we were told by a rather sullen receptionist that our room wasn't ready. She rang through to housekeeping to see how long it would be and it became apparent that there was a maintenance issue with the toilet in this room. We were told to go and have a drink and come back in half an hour. The fact the room wasn't ready wasn't an issue for us but I feel a mutter of apology and an offer of a drink would have been nice especially as other people have mentioned welcome drinks and the same receptionist came chasing after another guest who's room was also not ready offering her complimentary refreshments!! After a couple of trips back to reception our room (a different room number) and the reception staff had changed shifts. What a difference! If this lovely pair had been there to greet us our whole impression of this place would have been so different. Our special Anniversary break was perfect from then on our room 207 was beautiful and all other staff we encountered were great. Our special thanks to Pepe in the restaurant who talked us through the amazing tasting menu and looked after us so well. We would return.

Room Tip: Try to get 207. Great views and the room cooler works well

Dear LORRAINE59,

Thank you so much for your review, I am so sorry that your welcome wasn't up to our usual standard, I have forwarded your remarks on to our Reception Manager who will deal with whatever training is necessary.

I am however delighted that after that initial hiccup we were able to make your anniversary celebrations with us, perfect. We are so happy that you enjoyed our new seasonal tasting menu and that Peppe was at hand to talk you through its gastronomic delights.

I'm so glad to hear that you will be returning and we look forward to welcoming you back whenever the opportunity arises,

Kindest regards

It is as beautiful in real life as on the pictures.... You absolutely understand why this have been used in many movies. When you have a place like this it is a shame they do not provide better service. All the way through they are using junior staff that tries the best but is not trained probably. In the restaurant you needed to wait for ages no matter if you should see menu card, order, get the food or pay. In the reception several employees looking down in the computers instead of helping etc. Please raise prices 10% train and motivate the staff and then i goes from 3 stars to 4 or maybe even 5.

Dear Mikkel T,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of our hotel.

I am so pleased that you thought that the hotel was beautiful but disappointed that you didn't receive the levels of service that we normally strive to attain. I have already spoken to the departmental managers involved to ensure that then the issues that you raised will be addressed.

I do hope that these isolated issues haven't put you off returning and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again one day,

Famous as the location for external shots of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this hotel was once a gem on the Thames. Admittedly a few years since I've been here, but it's not the delight it once was.

An average, well appointed place - great location on the banks of the river and close to most of the local tourist spots. Still very pretty, but the food was average at best and ambience has faded from special to a little tatty.

I'm sure wedding parties would still find the location ideal for those memorable pics and it's certainly not the worst hotel around. But no longer one of the best.

Dear Lexingtonbrit,

Thank you for your review, i'm so pleased that you think that we are in a great location, well appointed and very pretty.
We have just renovated our Sitting Room & Library and are in the process of bringing the lobby back to its original wooden floors.
Please come back and see us soon and I hope that you will agree that we are doing our best to bring back that 'delightful' feeling that you remember so fondly,

We stayed here some years back and it was a bit grotty then; it's clearly had a great overall and was lovely throughout grounds and rooms. In July '14 we spent the night at Oakley Court before taking flights from Heathrow the next day. We were really impressed with the friendly staff and great suite. Loved that you could order food in a choice of various rooms or the terrace.

PS - we watched The Rocky Horror Show on DVD - very fun as it was filmed at Oakley Court.

We stayed for one night at the Oakley Court with two kids aged 7 and 6 and loved it! They could give lessons to other hotels in customer service. Check in staff were friendly and efficient - activity packs for the kids and a glass of bubbly each for the parents while they checked us in too :-)

The family room (401) was spacious and beautifully furnished. We had requested two singles for the kids and found that a double had been made up - but a quick phone call to reception and housekeeping arrived with another bed and had it made up in two minutes.

The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and perfect for letting the little ones burn off some excess energy without annoying other guests - our kids had a great time stretching their legs and finding secret hiding places among the trees after a long car journey.
We finished our evening sipping a glass of wine on the terrace watching the kids play safely while listening to the Friday evening jazz musician.
Breakfast was beautiful, plentiful and very fresh - and again we could sit by the French doors sipping coffee while the kids played outside.
Thank you for the most relaxing night - we were sorry to leave but we'll be back.
We would highly recommend this hotel. Note to management: The pictures do not do the place justice

Dear photographersmate,

We are so pleased that you had such a relaxing and enjoyable time with your family and that you enjoyed our customer service from the moment you arrived, nothing like a glass of bubbly to set the right mood!

We are also pleased that you enjoyed your time on the terrace listening to our Friday Night Jazz musician while watching your children play in our beautiful grounds. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to visit us again soon,

It's REALLY fun to stay here, where the Rocky Horror Picture Show was filmed. Not super clean but definitely passable (and I'm pretty picky). The ambiance of the strange looking building (that's a good "strange") and the fact it is right on the Thames will have you overlooking things that might need a little sprucing up. Most of the rooms are not in the old building but rather in the more modern hotel wings on the side of the building. Don't miss sitting out on the lawn chairs watching the boats travel the Thames. Also don't miss the wall in the downstairs hallway just to the right of the main entry. It has photos of some of the various movies filmed here. Make sure to ask if the airconditioning is working as I don't know if our visit was just a fluke or if the A/C is usually out (or even exists). Our room (and apparently the whole East Wing) was like a sauna. We had to stay out of the room as much as possible which wasn't a hardship as the grounds are absolutely beautiful. When we were in the room, we only left on one small lamp which was away from the window as we were trying not to attract bugs through the open windows (too hot to close the windows). Well that didn't work because England has lots of bugs, so before bed we were picking bugs off the ceiling. We had to sleep with the windows open and fan going all night. My husband is really handy so he found a way to open the tops of the windows and he rigged a fan into the window. He also removed the small refrigerator and unplugged it as it was giving off heat. We kept the bathroom door closed as the front desk said they couldn't turn off the towel heater as it was hooked into the hot water system. It was way beyond sauna level in the bathroom. Luckily today was quite cool outside all day. Yesterday was very warm (in the 90's) which is probably what blew the A/C. I can't imagine staying here yesterday. I'm sure we would have had to leave. Management wasn't too concerned with offering options or suggestions. Management's lack of response combined with the fan in the room is what makes me think this might be normal. Also, the fact the management didn't tell us about it when we checked in and give us the option to go elsewhere (yes it was THAT bad in the room) made it seem like this is normal. Excruciating heat aside, the bed were twins pushed together with separate twin duvets (but I think this is common in Europe). The mattresses were very firm. The grounds were beautiful.

Dear LagoonGirl,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed sitting down by the river watching the boats go by and our beautiful grounds but would like to apologise that the comfort cooling in the East Wing failed during your stay, this has now been rectified and is in full working order.

I hope that this hasn't put you off returning and we look forward to welcoming you back to Oakley Court in the future,
