This is a unique experience. Nobody is on site. You enter the place with a PIN number. Our room was upstairs so we had to schlepp our considerable stuff up the stairs (no lift). The room was NOT air-conditioned -- which was a major drawback on the night we were there. The bathroom is about a closet and a half large. The location is very close to city center and one can walk there in 10 minutes or so. The parking is a half block away and cost about 13 GBP for 24 hours. My only major reservation is "no A/C." But it was an "interesting" experience. Oh, yeah, and breakfast is sort of self-serve cold breakfast out of a pre-stocked small refrigerator in the room. We stayed in William (all 4 (?) rooms have names like that). Not bad, but not great, either.

Thank you for taking the time to review Charles House. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Charles House is over 100 years old it has 2 floors - a ground floor and first floor - like most houses in the UK and I would guess America, it would not be possible to put a lift in the building, there is a ground floor room which was free when you booked if you knew it would be difficult for you to carry your case upstairs. With regards to the air conditioning, unless you book into a modern hotel in the UK it is very unlikely that you will find air conditioning, and certainly even more unlikely in a guest house. All my rooms had fans which most guests appreciated during our wonderful hot spell. Parking costs £7.00 max for a 24 hour period.

My friend and I stayed at Charles House for one night. We wish it could have been more! We had been looking for a convenient place to stay for an early morning flight out of Heathrow. This was perfect. We had been traveling around GB without a car so the close location to the train station was great. We were able to quickly walk to our rooms, drop our bags, and then get right back out to make the most of our one day in Windsor.
I should add that we came in early but had been told we could leave our bags until our room was ready. Happily, there was no need as our room was ready when we got there, but it's good to know the option is there. We had wondered about the keyless entry but there was no problem at all. Don't be intimidated by the nondescript exterior. The simple outside does not reflect the care that has been taken on the inside.
Easy walk to all the sights and restaurants. Also, the grocer across the street is open until late so you can pick up any snacks or things you might need.
The room was beautiful. Very spacious, bright and clean. The bathroom was also very spacious. Everything was spotless and attractive. I would highly recommend Charles House.

Room Tip: We were in the Elizabeth room. Right at the top of the stairs. All I can say it that it was great!

I really enjoyed my clean room with its unexpected outdoor space. It w as right across the street from a grocers so I could save money by eating supper in. A short walk along the river to shopping & the castle.

Room Tip: Although my room Victoria, was at the front of the house, road noise was not an issue.

This is our second time at Charles House as we find it particularly useful for when we go the Widsor Races. Thers is a car park opposite which is very reasonably priced, especially considering where you are, and the walk to the river where you can catch the boat to Windsor racecourse is about 5 minutes away through the coach park(maybe ten if you have high heels on!)
The rooms are wonderful, we like Henry and although it is the room at the front on the corner of the two roads, we didn't hear any traffic at all. It did get a bit warm but that's because we had such wonderful weather and who can complain about that. In the room, there is tea and coffee making facilities with a couple of lovely looking packaged cookies and some mints - all lovely touches. The room is very spacious and has a hairdryer, tv, full size fridge and is tastefully decorated. Our room even had a bath as well as a shower.
Our friends loved it too as did my sister last year. Each room has it's own unique charm. We will definitely be returning, if not this year then next year

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to noise don't go for Henry which is at the front of the building but it di...

The Victoria room was huge. Lots and lots of space, cupboards etc.Decor top rate. The standard of presentation was of a 4 star hotel. Again the bathroom was very spacious and to a very high standard.Lots of thought had been given to the personal details and nothing was skimped on.The outside does not reflect the gorgeous inside and even though it is situated on the main road I could not hear the traffic.
It was a delight to stay at Charles House

Room Tip: The Victoria room is extremely spacious and has a little patio area.

Changed our booking based on reviews and glad we did.We stayed in Henry, a spacious room with a small table and couple of chairs. Well decorated, equipped and thoughtfully laid out, attention to detail was unsurpassed. Full size fridge in a cabinet, proper tv, tea/coffee, humidifyer, iron and board, hairdryer everything.
Plenty of wall plugs, tasteful sun blinds, things often overlooked. This was one of the best rooms we have stayed in and that includes 5* hotels. Position is good, 5 minutes from centre. On a main road though, so if you open the double glazed windows you may be troubled by noise. I think there may have been AC and wished I had investigated. PIN entry brilliant.

Room Tip: Henry overlooks the main road. Road noise is not a issue unless you like fresh air in which case roo...

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Charles House. Windsor is a busy town and we do get a lot of visitors coming to enjoy our beautiful historic town which unfortunately does mean some trafic noise. If you do visit Windsor again and hopefully stay at Charles House, I would recommend booking William, this room is smaller but is in the middle of the house not overlooking the road and therefore quieter. Thank you again for taking the time to give feedback.

Sorry about the title, but many people expect (wish for) a hotel / B&B with sweeping, majestic driveways and grounds, maybe a bar or restaurant, etc. If this is your expectation and you therefore dismiss this B&B you will be missing out on a little gem. It is not in the most ideal positions being on the corner of a crossroads with traffic lights, but this is advertised as such and so is not misleading. The (cheap) car park is about 50 metres away and it is of no big deal to stroll over. I've had bigger walks from so-called 'on site parking'.

It is ideal for Windsor town centre which is reached in 5-10 minutes. A pub is along the road some 50 metres away in the opposite direction to Windsor.

There's not much to say on the rooms that hasn't already been said. I found mine very clean and comfortable and it also passed 'the dust test' (top of doorways/picture frames, etc).

Can't wait to return to Windsor on business and stay once again.

Ian
