“Luxury by the Thames”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We had a couple of nights here in late June when we were seeing Elton John at Stoke Park. We were in one of the annex buildings and not the main hotel. Room and bathroom were lovely although a little small. Staff were fantastic and check in and out was great. Fantastic breakfast, which set us up for the day. Location right next to the Thames was fantastic and within walking distance of the castle and restaurants.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the river then you will have to ask and pay for it

We have just celebrated my wife's birthday in this hotel - we were upgraded into a club suite - which was lovely, the hotel is in a brilliant location for restaurants - try Cote brasserie - right on the water - fabulous lunch - then dinner the next day - couldn't fault it. We enjoyed a short boat trip - turn right at the bridge instead of left - much quieter and cheaper boat trips. The hotel itself is lovely - great place right on the river - we bought a secret escapes deal - which was good - but we wished we hadn't had the set menu and had eaten off of the main menu instead. We felt that the choice was very limited and the food was not presented well - unlike the main menu - it was also rather salty. Overall tho - we really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

We made full use of the hotel and its facilities including a visit to the spa where we used the jacuzzi and showers. Lovely location close to all the sights and the river. Great also for jogging along the Thames walk in the morning. The staff were all great. We would like to send a special thanks to Charlotte in the reception who carried our bags and put up with all our queries with a smile on her face. Very professional. We would also like to mention Sam in the restaurant who made our evening very special.

Room Tip: We booked a suite but were surprised to find that it was rather small and overlooking the staffs smo...

I booked Afternoon Tea at the hotel for 2:30pm, to celebrate a friends birthday. We were only a table of 3 and got a lovely welcome by the main reception and shown to a shaded table on the terrace overlooking the river. The service from then on was really awful! We waiting 15 minutes to order (not too bad) and ordered the pimms afternoon tea and a jug of water. 30 minutes later - no sign of anything (not even the water). We waited patiently until we realised it was 3:45pm and we had only recieved the water having had to ask for it again.
We checked on on our order with a young waiter called Sam who returned to tell us the order had not been put through and asked who we had spoken to.
A good service requires staff who look after their customers - and as we were sitting for over an hour, they really should've noticed and rectified the situation. There were at least 5 waiters working that day.
The food arrived at 4pm - ratio of sandwiches to cakes is a little overwhelming but overall it was quite pleasant.
We asked for a suitable deduction from our bill due to the error made and the wait we endured.
This was warranted but I won't be returning here for Afternoon Tea - there are plenty of other places in Windsor to try.

We stay here annually. The staff are fantastic, ( the concierge even took a bottle of prossecco we had brought in with us & kept it cold til we wanted it then produced it in an ice bucket!) the garden is absolutely lovely and the afternoon cream tea a must ( if not a little pricey) I would say the rooms at the front of the hotel get very very noisy late at night. There is a kebab shop on the corner and when the pubs/clubs turn out everyone seems to congregate outside the hotel. We had 2 interrupted nights sleep but know to request a room at the back next time.

Room Tip: At the back to avoid noise. There are also 3 rooms with sun terraces, same price but fist come, fir...

Dear Christinemuggie,

thank you very much for this amazing review of your stay with us at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.

I was over the moon to read how happy you were with the team and have made sure that they have seen your review as well.

It is very hard to manage the street noise at times and whilst we employ night time security, they do sometimes struggle to manage noise from the surrounding businesses. I am sorry that this effected your stay.

Please do let us know when you are next here, so that we can accommodate your room request.

Warm regards

Stayed for one night, the hotel is very close to all the Windsor sights and the river. We had our evening meal in the restaurant by the side of the Thames. The hotel was fresh and clean and the staff were both friendly and effective. There is also a well equipped spa and gym.
