“Great sleep, great food, great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room wasn't huge but was very comfortable and perfectly adequate. It's a lovely old English hotel full of history the bar area is full of character and atmosphere. We had dinner in the Tattersalls Brasserie, the food was exceptional with great service. Breakfast was no less impressive. The service throughout the hotel is first class.

As we left we were already talking about a return visit, only regret is we didn't stay for longer.

We stayed last year in a Double room - 24. This year we booked 2 weeks ahead, but only Superior Double left at the following rate; 1st night - £180.00 and the 2nd night - £165.00. As we particularly like Broadway, we took that room. Sadly, this was a great disappointment. It was room 25, looking directly over the car park. I would say the Double room was far better value for money and in better condition at the time of staying.
Room 25 was shabby. Curtains fraying, bed cover grubby, poorly maintained bathroom with antiquated plumbing. We were unable to regulate radiators and nobody to help. So it was very hot in room. Poor supply of bottled water, especially as a notice in bathroom advised not to drink tap water! The coffee was nasty ( I bought some in Broadway). Bed side lighting was inadequate. The TV remote control I cleaned with a medicated hand wipe as it was unhygienic. The old brown furniture was awful. Even drawer liners would help. The safe was on the floor at the back of the cupboard. Ideally the whole room needs a complete refit. Hugely over priced.
We had breakfast on both mornings, which was very good and slightly made up for the poor room.
We did speak to 2 members of staff about some of the problems and they empathised.
Not sure about staying again as this last experience was spoilt because of the room.

From the moment of booking until the moment we checked out we were treated as if we were the only guests in the hotel, even though the hotel was full. Andrew the Manager together with Allen from the restaurant seemed to be there on every shift, making us wonder if they ever slept!
Having worked in hospitality for the last 20 years myself, my profession has made me personally critical with every hotel I've ever stayed in, and I am delighted to honestly say I found this Hotel faultless from the Housekeeping team, waiting staff, Reception staff, Management Team and of course the most amazing food from Head Chef and his Brigade nothing was too much trouble - no matter how busy they were, and even if we was kept waiting for a minute the first thing any member of staff did was to apologise. As for my husband who travels all over the world, said he had never ever tasted a Lemon Meringue Pie like it in the world!!. Chef even made me a Diane Sauce which wasn't even on the menu, just for me, and it was divine, thank you.
We stayed in a Junior Suite, it wasn't the largest of rooms, however it was extremely clean, the sign of a good house-keeping team, it was a lovely room with a good brand of biscuits and plenty of milk 'pots' thank goodness - a failure in many hotels, it was also had a copious amount of Molton Brown products.

Finally I have never upon check-out,booked to return, something we most certainly did, in a few weeks, and we can't wait.

I would like to thank you Andrew and all the Team for making our stay to memorable, and we both look forward to seeing you on the 6th December. x

We stayed at this hotel on the night of 26th October 2013 and stayed in room 24 which looks out over the gardens and car park to the rear We stayed here to meet up for dinner with friends. What a wonderful stay we had. The hotel was very friendly and fantastic staff. We booked a dinner for 4 in the Tatersall restaurant which was faultless Service throughout was excellent. A very comfortable room. Easy parking and close to all amenities. Would certainly visit again.

Visited this hotel for a celebration weekend with friends. Opted for the Champagne and chocolates package and were not disappointed at all. Had dinner and breakfast and on both occasions the food was excellent. Good range of beers in the cosy bar and at dinner there was a good wine list at prices you would expect to pay for a hotel of this type. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We would definitely recommend a visit, you will not regret it.

Just returned from this wonderful hotel after being away for three nights to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. We had visited this village last year and I remembered how lovely the hotel and looked and decided this would be a good choice, and I wasn't wrong. We had the Abbots Room also called The Arkle. It was fabulous, a king size sleigh bed in a very clean practical / olde worlde style room with beautiful view out the front of the hotel overlooking the village green. The meals in the restaurant were to die for, Masterchef eat your heart out! All the staff without exception were all very friendly and accommodating. Definately good value, we would love to stay there again!

Room Tip: If you like firm pillows, you might want to take your own or ask on booking if there are any. We d...

Great village and nice hotel but my only request was for a quiet room and we spent 3 sleepless nights in the noisiest room ever! The hotel is old so you are going to get creaking floorboards but either we had nocturnal guests above us or we were under the main walkway round the hotel. The door to the garden was directly beside us and the stairs ran up beside us! We had booked a junior suite but it was actually a tiny bedroom with a separate small room just big enough for a two seater sofa! All would have been forgiven if there was even a glimmer of interest from the receptionist when we complained. Nice hotel, lovely bar, good food, get earplugs!
