I organised a family weekend away to celebrate my dad's birthday with my husband, parents, brother and his girlfriend and decided to stay at the Dormy House Hotel having read some pretty good reviews on trip advisor and also having struggled to find any other free hotels/b&bs in and around the cotswolds.
Quite simply the service we received from all but one of the members of staff was absolutely exceptional, the receptionist that greeted us was warm, genuinely friendly and helpful. We arrived at around 6pm and despite having finished serving afternoon tea, the waiter said he'd see what the kitchen could rustle up and we were not disappointed - the scones were to die for! The bar staff and restaurant staff at the Barn Owl Brasserie were great fun and really friendly but not intrusively so - we had such a lovely evening. The only let down was the rather surly service from one middle aged male member of staff (possibly a manager??) at breakfast the following morning - in complete contrast to the other employees who all came across as genuinely happy in their work, he seemed to think serving was beneath him and made his feelings patently clear.
To be honest, we'd had such a great stay, not even grumpy's attitude could sour it. As for the facilities, we had 3 rooms and whilst all were quite small and basic they were clean and pleasant to stay in - there is a jacuzzi and sauna but unfortunately we'd crammed in too much to be able to get a chance to use them.
I can highly recommend the Dormy House Hotel (and the Barn Owl Brasserie) - we'll definitely be going back. Fabulous stay and the staff epitomise everything that is great about British hospitality

Nice, welcoming, friendly...
It's not always easy to find an upscale hotel with family rooms, but this was not a problem @Dormy House. Lovely, modern, very clean rooms. Very friendly staff, ok restaurant, we would certainly recommend it!

Last time we stayed here I proposed to my now wife. This return marked my Birthday and our 3rd Anniversary. For some reason we were shunted out into the Owl Bistro for our evening meal whic was OK but only OK. A couple of the 'Specials' disappeared before our very eyes; just after we had decided they were just what we wanted. Our meals were good but the ambience not. The night was very hot and we found it impossible to sleep well as it was impossible to get enough cool air into the room. The following day we simply paid up and returned home as our night had left us unfit to take in one of the lovely gardens in the vincinity. Facilities in the room were somewhat lacking. The service was good and all the staff were suitably polite and helpful.

Room Tip: I guess the answer may be to request a room other than in the older part of the building.

We emailed for availablity on family rooms to be told no rooms available! Then we were asked what age the children were, we replied with the ages and were then offered courtyard rooms with an interconnecting door! agreed on this as we have stayed in the courtyard rooms before and they are very nice! We left early the next day for a show at Blenheim Palace and half way through the day we got a call saying we should have checked out? they had got us down for one night only? We never recieived an apology even after the lady on the reception told us she could see the mistake as the Dormy booking email did not mention dates and how many nights. At £460 per night for two adults and two children aged 11 and 14 you would think you might get better treatment especially when we are in a recession. Great hotel though and can be very relaxing, just need to sharpen up on communication. When booking make sure they give you in writing the dates and how many nights, I know this is something we should have done but after staying there many times before we thought we could trust them to look after us!

Room Tip: We have stayed many times and found both courtyard and main hotel very good.

Went to the Barn Owl Restaurant with my family on Saturday evening. The restaurant itself is truly Cotswold, the staff were very friendly and most welcoming. We found the menu very varied and we had trouble deciding what to choose. On arrival it was picture perfect on the plates, somehow we managed to squeeze in dessert which, again, were beautiful both in taste and looks. We'll most certainly go back.

My mother and I stayed for 4 nights at this wonderful hotel, but wished it could have been longer. We had inter-connecting rooms[35&36] in their wonderful single storey cotswold style cottages in the grounds[short walk to main hotel-umbrella's provided!]We had wonderful views from our private patio out across the golf course and wonderful planting in the garden to give it that cottage feeling.I had asked for a fridge in the room which was provided without any of the drama I have experienced elsewhere[I am a diabetic and need to store insulin]The room was superb with plenty of room, wonderful comfey bed and a superb bathroom with all mod-cons-we even had lovely cotton dressing gowns which I was not expecting. The main hotel is charming with a wonderful degree of comfort, small areas with sofas, larger lounge areas, courtyards, external terraces, lawns and a superb conservatory style dining room as well as the more informal Brassiere both of which served SUPERB food-beautifully presented-and the breakfast was one of the best I have had-hot drinkable coffee, properly cooked toast and home made yogurt-the bacon and eggs were pretty good as well!I cannot praise the staff highly enough-nothing was too much trouble, from the front desk to housekeeping to waiting staff the same helpful attitude was present-I strongly suggest that this hotel runs training courses for would be hoteliers so they can see how it should be done and so rarely is.We shall be returning next year without fail.I should also mention that for value for money it would be hard to beat.

Room Tip: 35 and 36-inter connecting-lovely views
