We were drawn (above the many other offers of accomodation nearby to Hidcote, where we were coming from) by the location, photos, reviews and excellent email and phone help in advance. On arrival the site seemed a bit of a warren and mix of architectures (in and out). However, decoration of corridors and service at reception was good - though we had to work at rapport with the person serving us tea/drinks. However, the charm of the place grew on us: the lovely guest lounge with fire, the old style bar, the high quality bedroom (14 - suite). The private use of the sauna was good. A real surprise was the dinner in the conservatory - set up very formally, the dishes we cooked lightly/simply with lots of steamed vegetables and a great pineapple tartin dessert (that gives the pineapple at Hestons Dinner a bit of competition). Again service at breakfast was a bit odd. There isn't anywhere for a short walk nearby off the road (though there are 3 good leaflets for longer walks).

A few things to improve? Quality of coffee in room and restuarants, wine list, pillows. Strangely the trees and orientation of the public rooms don't make/allow use of the stunning escarpment views,

Room Tip: Get a recently refurbished room - and maybe one with view over escaprment from upstairs of main hous...

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff who could not do enough for you. We stayed in a deluxe king room which was spotlessly clean and very spacious. The rainfall shower is very relaxing. We dined in the restaurant and the food was of a very high standard as was breakfast. Very cosy and welcoming, would definitely return on next visit to the Cotswolds.

Lovely situation, very clean and tidy throughout with friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed our evening meal accompanied by good wine and good selection for breakfast. Did think the room which was small (but then it is a 17th century inn) was overpriced compared to a nearby hotel we had stayed in the night before but understand what a lovely place it would be for a wedding.

We had our wedding at the Dormy in June and what a special day it was.
The staff at the Dormy were absolutely wonderful from start to finish. We had several meetings prior to the event and nothing was too much trouble in making our day perfect. Katie was very helpful in organising everything, Chef Paul and his team did a splendid job producing outstanding food throughout the day and evening with some wonderful bespoke menu selections. The staff (sorry if the names escape me) were a credit with the service of food and drink. The general Manager , David should be very proud of his team.
The venue is first class and the rooms spotless and comfortable.
Canapes and champagne on the lawns with all of our wedding party playing croquet was very special. All in all a wonderful day in every way thanks to everyone at the Dormy !

This was our second stay this year. What can we say? We love the Dormy. It's warm, welcoming and comfortable. All the staff are fantastic with our little boy. His dietary needs are well looked after. The 'ladies on the desk' are helpful and friendly. We struggle to get our little boy away from the desk (he likes to chat!!). There are loads of places to visit nearby. We filled our 6 days easily and plan to return soon. Thanks to all the staff for looking after us so well. :-)

Reception could have been more friendly but was still admirably swift and efficient.

We had booked the penthouse suite and were pleased that we took up the offer of help with our bags as it was, not surprisingly, up several flight of stairs.

The room is large and takes up the whole of the roof space in the main (original) building with two dorma windows looking out through the trees to countryside beyond. There are roof beams running across the room at several points but this should not be an issue unless you are six feet plus.

It is very well furnished with two flat screen tvs. In one of the large, built-in wardrobes is a fridge with fresh milk and kettle to make tea or (Nescafe) coffee. A higher grade of fairtrade coffee would have been more in fitting with the otherwise very high standard of the room. I like "toys" and so enjoyed the sophisticated lighting system that fades the lights to preset levels. The bathroom has two basins and a large, side filling bath as well as a heated towel rail. We liked the generous towels too.

We took afternoon tea, served in the lounge, and appreciated that the log fire had been lit on what was a cool August afternoon.

Our evening meal in the main dining room was excellent - both the service and the food. The dining room has cosy traditional dining areas as well as a large, bright and airy conservatory.

We had the windows open overnight and it was very quiet through the night but there was some noise from cars on the country road passing the hotel first thing in the morning. this was no issue for us but If you want perfect peace you might like to ask for a room at the rear of the hotel.

Breakfast was faultless, we opted for smoked samon and scrambled egg. Coffee was good and orange juice was of good quality too.

Checkout included the smile that was lacking when we checked in and we left the hotel very contented after an excellent one night stay.

Room Tip: There may be a little noise from cars passing the hotel first thing in the morning - rooms at the re...

For those who wish to enjoy a tasteful, peaceful and comfortable stay in the north Cotswolds, Dormy and it's staff are quite unsurpassable. Relaxation and service away from the gift shops of Broadway and perfumeries of Bourton remains Dormy's greatest strength.
