Well overdue for a break, we came across the Dormy House. What a find! From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. They even let us have breakfast and use the spa even before we checked in. Spa absolutely superb and the therapists skilled and engaging. They have facilities to allow couples to enjoy treatments together and helped us plan a few sessions that worked like a dream. All meals well up to standard and the gourmet menu really delivered the goods. But overall what stood out was the quality of the staff - their ability interact effectively with the guests, including us, was world class. A great team. Beautiful and interesting interior design. The spa included steam rooms, a multi-mode shower including 'tropical storm' (well worth a try), a splendid swimming pool and a jacuzzi. Situated in lovely countryside and close to many pretty Cotswold villages. For those seeking to relax, this gets 6 stars.

My wife and I (and our family) have been longstanding customers and supporters of the DH as visitors to their restaurants. Since their upgrade we have managed to have one very excellent sunday lunch in the potting shed but when contacting them subsequently on several occasions have been told sorry we are fully booked. Today after leaving the adjacent golf club we dropped round to the DH potting shed at 13.10 hrs to find just three of the many tables occupied and when asking for a table for lunch was told by a waitress after checking with "someone" sorry we are fully booked. My wife on enquiring about the many vacant tables was told they were all reserved "for future use" but they were no table notices to indicate this and as long standing customers feel saddened to be treated like this by an old friend (or so we thought!)

I'm so sorry that we were unable to accommodate you when you last visited Dormy House. We operate a table booking system, which, depending upon the time of the bookings, can sometimes make the restaurant appear empty, whilst we wait for diners to arrive. I'm sorry if this wasn't explained fully to you. We're in the lucky position of being very popular and we will therefore be introducing all day dining in the Potting Shed over the summer in order to ensure that we don't have to disappoint anyone.

As a long standing friend of The Dormy, I hope that you will give us another chance and we can look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Please do contact me directly so that I can take care of the arrangements personally for you.

We had only intended to have a short 3 night break when we stayed here but we enjoyed it so much we extended it by a night. Our bedroom, a standard, was quite small, but nicely appointed and adequate for our needs - nice to go back to the room each evening with the bed having been turned down, water put out and radio playing classical music quietly. They are good at the small touches. We ate for two evenings in the bar, the food was really nice and we liked the informal atmosphere. Breakfast consisted of a small menu of cooked items (full english, boiled eggs, fish, etc. and a help-yourself counter with cold meats, cheese, cereals, etc. Service was efficient and the food really nice. As we wanted to completely relax, the pool/sauna area was a godsend, and we spent quite some time in there using the new, excellent facilities; sauna, steam rooms, outdoor jacuzzi, etc. Unsurprisingly, as lots of people want to use the pool area, the loungers and jacuzzi seem to get occupied quite quickly - we were there mid-week and out of season, and wondered if it would be crowded in the summer. We were disappointed on two evenings, having made plans to return to the hotel especially to use the jacuzzi/pool, they were out of use on consecutive evenings, but I guess these things happen. The cosy lounges helped our relaxation, where you can sit by the fires and read/play games. The staff were excellent - polite, attentive and professional. We had a lovely, relaxing stay overall and would be happy to return.

We drove to Dormy House on a Friday night escaping London...and within half an hour of arriving felt totally relaxed. We enjoyed a drink by the fire in the lounge which is beautifully decorated and feels like a country home from home. We thought we might have been the only ones dining in the 'pub' onsight as didn't sit down to eat until after 9pm but it seemed plenty of other frazzled Londoners were doing the same so the place had a nicely charged atmosphere and the food was delicious.

Saturday was spent relaxing over the generous breakfast and enjoying the pool and spa (we thought about visiting a local village but couldn't bring ourselves to leave!). These have been designed very well but PLEASE put silencers on the doors into the spa and out to the hot tub. Every 2 minutes someone comes in and out and those doors slam very hard... makes it hard to relax. We did also have the same issue as some others here regarding a lack of loungers by the pool which were all taken for the first hour we were there... it was ok as the sun was shining so we lay by the hot tub and eventually beds came free.

Our a la carte dinner in the Garden room was very pleasant...it's nothing to shout about after London restaurants (which are comparable at the price point) but the staff are nice and they do everything they can to provide good service.

Our room (15) was a big highlight...plump feather pillows, billowing feather duvet and soft white sheets over an enormous bed. Mega fluffy white towels in the bathroom makes it all too good to leave for long!

Finally the staff were great in returning my cashmere scarf I left behind and realised after a week of frantic searching.

Overall a very peaceful and high-design environment in which to escape the madness of city life. Will definitely be back!

I have just returned from a one-night stay, with two friends. Although we didn't eat there other than breakfast, it all looked very nice. The rooms were lovely and the beauty treatments very good too. We had the spa and pool almost to ourselves but, having read some of the other comments, if I had encountered noisy children, either in the pool or elsewhere, it would have put a totally different slant on my enjoyment or desire to return. As it was, it was lovely. One small criticism...having to carry our own bags into the hotel. At these prices - and with steps to negotiate - some help would have been good. I look forward to returning.

We stayed in a Danish Court room. Very small, no sound proofing-Think nice Travel Lodge. The hotel had no availability in the restaurants. Pool was lovely but too few loungers and wet towels were left in heaps around the area. There were no staff in the bar area to get drinks. There are two gyms with different equipment but only one is open if you haven't booked a PT appointment (even if this gym is empty). We booked for 3 nights but decided to stay only one-very disappointed.

I did give my comments to the hotel but they havent responded which is quite dissapointing.
Hotel is beautiful - the renovation of the spa has been done so well. The different spa rooms are fantastic , lavender room, steam room , pool is lovely, jacuzzi outside great (there is a major flaw in this spa as well however )
Area - Broadway is our favourite. The hotel decor is stunning and just to our taste. Elegant, nice colours, looks like new, really plush and looks expensive but in a discreet way. We had room 19 - top notch room which was out side of the main house and looked like a cottage. The room was fab, cant fault it. Bathroom had underfloor heating as well which was a lovely touch. Decor great.
On the first day we headed to the spa. Was lovely and relaxing until people came in and out the main door. The soft close thing wasnt on and it kept slamming so no chance to sleep or relax in here. We did mention it but they didnt seem too bothered and it happened the next day as well. The pool is too big for the room hence they could only get i think 8 loungers around the pool so space is at a premium. After 4pm is family time ! be warned ! A family arrived with their kids screaming, jumping in the pool splashing people. running up and down. parents doing nothing. so literally everyone else had to leave it was so horrible. We spoke to the manager and they said it was a tricky one which we accept and they said they advise guests that after 4pm children are allowed (didnt advise us) and mabye advise them to respect other guests its still a spa at the end of the day.
Meals - first night a la carte restuarant. Again room is so beautiful like all the decor of this hotel. Everything is going well until our beef main arrives. It was as if someone had cut off 1/3 off a tiny steak and then cut that into 5 pieces ! it was the smallest bit of beef i have ever had in my life. The rest of the meal was okay. I would like to mention however there was one man who i think was the head guy at the restaurant/ bar and he was very good.
We had a lovely breakfast in the garden room the next day, the second day they were really busy and struggled to cope. But its lovely sitting there. Headed of to the spa late afternoon the next day knowing it would be kids time soon. However we hadnt allowed for 2 families of now loud kids and about 20 people trying to get into the spa to find a seat. At one point there was 3 people to a bed and things were getting very tense re other finding beds. this shouldnt happen it was choas in the spa.
Diiner in the potting shed. Our drinks order at bar was done wrong twice but no biggy. we sat down to our meal and my wine was just left on the table, no wine cooler and i was left to pour myself. Very strange. The food was lovely and we really liked the potting shed preferred it to the a la carte.
The main thing i think that lets the hotel down is sometimes the service. its not slick enough for how much you spend there. It all seems a bit lacklustre and they get a lot wrong which shouldnt happen, they need to learn how to see customers when they want a drink / get the orders right simple things need to done right. And the issues with the spa need to be seriously addressed. but would i go back. Yes. but i wish they would sort out these other issues.
