“Fantastic stay in beautiful, historic building.”
Reviewed 30 July 2012

We had an amazing night staying in the Charles I Suite (room 15) for our wedding anniversary. The suite had real 'Wow! factor': a four poster bed (looked gorgeous, but not a very supportive mattress), separate drawing room and luxury bathroom. The room was beautifully decorated and had panelling, beams and uneven, creaky floors.
We had a delicious meal at the restaurant in the evening and the cooked breakfast was super, however, the juices and pastries at breakfast were disappointing.
We used the spa twice and it was very good. The sauna and steam rooms were great, but the pool was not very practical for swimming. We had facials that were really relaxing. We also used the tennis courts twice (the carpet surface was rather soggy in the showery weather). The courts are at the end of the lovely garden.
We had a great stay and would come back for another stay, but only using one of their summer special deals and choosing to upgrade to one of the really special older rooms.

Room Tip: Choose one in the older section for real character (room 15)

Spent a day at the lygon arms for a spa day ...was fantastic. Broadway in my opinion is one of the most beautiiful villages in England and the lygon arms adds to the wonderful feel of this village. The spa staff were very helpful, recieved towel, robes and slippers, nice changing area, sauna, plunge pool, nice sized pool, jacuzzi and modern steam room was surprised how modern the area was, was expecting it to be a bit dated. The pool initially was busy however there are quieter areas to sit around pool, there is also a room without windows in to sit in, therefore my suggestion would be that the hotel could do with making more of the area top and bottom floor by pool for seating areas as this space is very light. Received treatments which were top class, the friendly staff took there time and were thorough. Excellent day in a beautiful setting, in addition there is also a lovely outdoor courtyard area outside hotel.

We did not stay at this hotel so cannot comment on the quality of the accommodation. We did however attempt to have lunch & drinks on the rear terrace having been told that non-residents were welcome. We were advised to take a seat & a waiter would serve us. After 25 minutes it became quite obvious that the one waiter on duty clearly could not cope with the 6 tables he had to serve. We had not even been asked what we'd like to drink let alone been given a menu! We informed the reception staff of the situation and were told he would definitely serve us soon. Still nothing after a further 10 minutes. We then attempted to order via the reception staff and after another 15 minutes of nothing, got up and left. The biggest positive was crossing the road to the Broadway Hotel where we enjoyed a great lunch in the sun

The Lygon Arms is a super place full of English charm in a beautiful village setting. The room was great with a small outside patio but the double bed made of two singles zipped together was not great and made the bed lumpy in the middle! The staff all pleasant and courteous, breakfast fantastic. Menus for lunch and drinks are very pricey and I would recommend going to other pubs and cafes in the village than spending the over priced £4 for a pot of tea or coffee. The swimming pool, steam room and spa are amongst the best we have been to for temperature and maintenance but the changing rooms and areas around the pool are in need of a revamp, more shabby than chic with used towels overflowing in the ladies changing room and insufficient lighting to put makeup on. Location and breakfast give it a very good ranking.

Room Tip: Rooms 90 - 96 (i think) are downstairs at the back with small patios, great in good weather and no r...

Had an enjoyable weekend at The Lygon. The majority of the hotel is very old, so it has an old fashion charm, small rooms & nooks to hid in! The Great Hall where breakfast & dinner are served was really nice. The courtyard & gardens were really well cared for. However whilst the rooms were in keeping with the traditional style I think the furniture and decor were perhaps about ready for a refresh. There is an excellent Spa for the energetic!!
They say British service at it's best cannot be beaten and I would say the staff at the Lygon were excellent from the front dest, to porter, to the resturant. However be carefull in the Bar as it is expensive & we did get 'ripped' one night (£20.00 for two single scotch's)
Broadway itself is lovely with a great feel to it and is a fantastic base from which to explore.
Finally, The Broadway Hotel across the road has an excellent bar where you can sit outside and watch the world go by! and the is a preety good Indian restuarant just down the road.

On entry, this hotel is like going back in time to a sixteenth century coaching inn with lots of olde- worlde character.
Staff on reception were brisk and efficient, as were the courteous bellboys.
We'd booked a premium room but it was nothing special, had a chipped table and needed a good refurbish.
Swimming pool was ok and has a jacuzzi - handy when you've been walking all day and need to relax tired muscles.
Didn't have dinner here- ate at Russells down the road.
Which brings me to breakfast which was truly appalling. The guy in charge in the restaurant didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing. He kept berating the staff for getting orders wrong and misplacing cutlery etc., but I suspect they hadn't received proper training because they all seemed willing enough.
I had to ask for more tea because the milk had gone off. They brought soya milk. My husband's full english arrived - not what he had ordered, so went back. The toast was cold. It was very basic fare - certainly not worth £19.50 !
Tip- have breakfast at the Market Pantry, much better value.
