“Sausages To Die For”
Reviewed 15 December 2013 via mobile

Have visited this establishment probably four or five times in the past year, when I've been in the area. Every time I have been made to feel most welcome by the staff. This time of year they have a lovely log fire burning which only adds to the ambiance. A great selection of real ales and are always superb. On my most recent visit I sampled one of the Christmas beers (Ding Dong) and it didn't disappoint. However, the beer was not the only delight to savour - the venison sausages, mash in onion gravy were out of this world. I'm salivating just writing this review. Don't take my word for it - go and try them! You'll see what I mean.

I visited this pub with my husband and friends to celebrate two birthdays. We had a brilliant evening. We could not fault the staff in any way, they were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The food was good and tasty and a good selection of Real Ales and drinks. This is a lovely traditional pub with a great atmosphere. It was saturday evening and a band called The Occasionally Big Band were playing, they were super. If you want the Ritz dont go here, if you want a good traditional old fashioned value for money British Pub then go right on in.

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of December and had a great time. The pub is just what it says it is, a traditional country pub with a good mix of locals and visitors. The pub has great charm, the rooms are fine, were nice and warm and very clean with everything you need. We had lunch, two evening meals and three breakfasts and the food was great, just what you would expect with good choice and good ingredients, well prepared and some nice local specialities. The chiefs took great pride in what they produced and a lot is home made. There is a good choice of beers and its well kept. Best of all Andrew and his team were all so friendly and welcoming and could not do enough to help us enjoy our stay and our holiday. We would certainly stay again and recommend to out friends.

We called in here on a Friday lunchtime after seeing it in the Good Pub Guide. We sat in the main bar area but had to move further away from the fire as the seating area smelt strongly of coal fumes from the fire which was rather unpleasant.
We ordered brown bread baguettes - oddly these cost 35p more than white bread ones. They came with a side salad which was brown and slimey, & should not have been served at all.
In fairness when I complained about this I was offered a re-fund for mine which I accepted although I felt that they thought I was being over fussy.
I'm afraid that we would not consider going to this pub ever again. Presumably we were just unlucky

You did not like us from the moment you walked in. We are one of the few places that have a wonderful welcoming coal fire especially on these cold wintery days that people love and congregate around. To you, it was smelly and you made the staff open the door.
The lettuce on the salad that was just delivered from our greengrocer, on there a small piece of a brown on one of the leaves and although 2/3 of the baggette was consumed you demanded a full refund. If it was “slimey” you would have not eaten as much as you did before deciding to complain. We offer our customers a choice and have a brown bagettes as well as white but in order to keep the prices down for those who just want the usual white bagette we do charge a small supplement.

We stayed here 25 years ago on our honeymoon and decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at the Crown and Trumpet also. The place has not changed. Its still a traditional, cosy English pub. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful. The room we had was lovely and the food was home cooked, very tasty and reasonably priced. The breakfasts were superb. Its a great place to relax and unwind and Broadway is stunning, We had a perfect break and we wish we could have stayed a bit longer!

We turned up here one Sunday evening looking for food and were treated to lovely pub grub and entertainment in the form of the pub quiz. Couldn't join in as it's a league but that didn't matter. Such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the food was good and hearty. Just the thing for a cold November night. Can recommend the sticky toffee pudding but ask for an additional scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it truly heavenly.

Thank you Patricia it was a cold night last Sunday but we had a good crowd in and with the fire a splendid time was had by all !! Thank you for your comments about our homemade deserts, I agree not the same without ice-cream. As you only live in Oxford hope to welcome you both again shortly.
