Mill House B & B was pretty much exactly what I had hoped for in experiencing the charm of the Cotswolds in a luxury, authentic setting.
We arrived around 6:30 P M and were given a friendly welcome and tour of the house. Once settled in, we gathered in the front room for wine and a tasty trail mix. It was a chilly evening, and we were hoping someone would light the fire, but that didn't happen - although the housekeeper lit it for us the second night of our stay. Lovely! Had dinner later that night at the Swan in Broadway. The owner made the reservation for us, and it was quite good.
My husband and I had the garden suite and our daughter had the balcony room. The garden suite is quite spacious, but the bed is described as a 4-poster regency king. Well the four posters are there and the bedding is quite lovely and comfortable, but the king-sized description was way off the mark - a stretch to even call it a queen by U S standards and this was a big disappointment resulting in not very restful sleep for us as we both tend to toss and turn. A shame, as this spacious, lovely room could easily have been configured to include a king bed. The bath, however, was pure luxury and the seating areas in the bedroom quite comfortable. And the views, from all the rooms, post-card perfect.
Our daughter had the balcony room, which was quite small, but she did find it comfortable enough for one person and with warmer weather, the balcony would have been put to great use. A nice tea service and fluffy bath robes were available in both rooms along with a mini fridge with complimentary waters.
The breakfasts are delicious and beautifully served in a lovely dining room overlooking the gardens. The eggs benedict are probably the best I've had anywhere and the breads - mouthwatering. Lovely fresh flowers on our table each morning and an abundance of yogurts, cereals, fresh fruits. No need for lunch after a meal like this and thank goodness for the availability of beautiful long walks in the area to do a bit of damage control.
Our favorite walk was the one through sheep fields up to the Tower. It was lambing season, and they were just adorable.
Broadway is an easy walk and has numerous good restaurants (Russells, our favorite, and recommended by the owner) and shops. So many delightful villages in the area and we tried to see as many as possible. Don't miss a meal the The Fox gastropub in Oddington.
The owners and help are all very friendly here and we felt most welcomed and comfortable ( except for the bed issue) Their dogs are adorable! Glad we chose this spot for our "rambles" amid the beautiful Cotswolds. An easy base to see both Oxford and Stratford - on - Avon.
