“Wonderful ambience and excellent roast”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

I visited the Potting Shed for the first time and was very impressed. Staff were friendly, professional and attentive and the hotel and restaurants are beautifully decorated and furnished. Amazing loos! The Potting Shed was unusual in that it felt at once like a fine dining experience- yet was also very relaxed. The starter and main course were excellent and staff dealt with the beef not being cooked fully enough for my tastes swiftly and politely. The puddings sounded great but were perhaps the one weak point. The savarin was dry and heavy and didn't have enough syrup. The banana cake that came with the caramelised bananas was wonderful, but the bananas themselves were not really caremelised and were barely cooked. Coffee in the sitting room by the fire was lovely. Just one other little thing- it would be nice to see a menu for coffee and soft drinks. Special thanks to the doorman who made us feel welcome and then escorted us to the car with a brolly.

“Delicious Tuesday Lunch in Quiet Surroundings”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Five of us drove to the Dormy Hotel's The Potting Shed restaurant for lunch a week ago, on a Tuesday. The atmosphere and decoration are quiet upscale but the prices relatively reasonable for the quality of the food. I had the confit of duck served on a bed of mashed potatoes with green beans and for dessert a delicious dark chocolate tart. Two had the spiced lambchops, one of the daily specials and two had sea bass and everyone thought their meal was very good. The tables are spaced far enough apart so that other diners' conversations don't intrude.

“do not sit outside”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

This was our third visit to The Potting shed for Sunday lunch, we did not book but managed to get a table.
Food is really good here and on both occasions before service had been 2nd to none. But on this occasion, it was busy so we decided to eat out on the terrace, but got forgotten about being outside!!!
We had to wait 25 minutes to get a drink, (thanks to Harry who sorted it in the end) in the past when we have eaten inside we have had some delicious bread brought to the table, but again nothing sitting outside. Our meals came and no one offered any sauces etc.., (which I would of liked something) again no one came to ask how the food was, our dirty glasses were left on the table, with no one coming to ask if we would like more drinks.
We finished our meal no one came to clear our plates and ask if we would like dessert so I went to the bill and the manager served me I told him about the bad service and he offered to take our drinks off our bill, but I said I had not complained in order to get money off my bill, the point was that the service was not good, so paid the bill in full and left.
This is a real shame as the Building has been done to a very high standard, the food is really good and in all fairness we have had two great meals in the past with brilliant service which is why we returned, my advice is always sit inside, even though we had bad service on this occasion we will return as the food is good, the building is lovely with a great atmosphere and we have had good service in the past, just do not sit outside!!

“Great food and atmosphere.”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Had a farmers afternoon tea, variety of sandwiches , small sausage rolls, pastries. Cakes and scones were very nice.Really good. Service was excellent.
Then in the evening we had The Potting Shed Platter, really great as we weren't wanting a full meal after having an afternoon tea.Just right, welsh rarebit, ribs, quail scotch, sausage rolls , continental meats with home made piccalilli.
The the following evening we had Burger and a beef and ale pie. Again all of the food was great. Reasonable price too. Would go again.

“Very pleasant Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

Excellent place to have Sunday lunch, nice atmosphere tables well spaced so could not hear next tables conversation. Service a bit slow not a problem as we had plenty of time. Good choice of menu, food well cooked nicely presented. Sat on the terrace for coffee relaxing in the afternoon sunshine.
Had to ask three times for a drink that had been ordered and a friendly smile from some of the staff would not go a miss
Over all pleasant experience would go again.
