“Delightful Riverside Location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2012

A great location minutes from the centre of the village and next to the river.
Beds too soft for me and watch out for the plastic mattress protector. Guaranteed to make you sweat. At least you can open the windows.
All staff very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast adequate but nothing earth shattering.

Room Tip: Watch out for the soft mattresses.

Very easy to locate and unlike a lot of town centre hotels, it was nice to find that the Northwick has a very large car park.

We stayed for two nights as part of a privately booked group. With a nice courtyard area with fountain - a pleasant place to have a coffee if the weather is good.

Reception was a little frosty on check in. However, thereafter the receptionists on duty were much friendlier with nice smiles and greetings. All the staff were very approachable and happy to have a word. We had a good sized room, fresh smelling and nicely decorated. The bed was firm, but comfortable enough, with nice white bed linen. TV with full selection of Freeview channels. Two reasonably comfortable tub chairs.

The bathroom, while showing its age and a bit of mould on the sealant on the corners of the shower screen, was clean, and full marks to housekeeping, after using the bath on the first evening there, the bath actually sparkled when we returned from a day out. The towels were good quality and nice and fluffy.

We were looking forward to taking advantage of the free wifi, but sadly our room must have been some distance from the router, as we struggled to get a strong enough signal.

Unfortunately our room was close to the pub and there was a wedding party in on the Friday, so it was very noisy until around midnight. But no problem thereafter. However they do have some live music events, so might be best to check if this might be problem.

The breakfast was buffet style and there was a good selection of both hot and cold choices - sadly let down by the plates being cold for the hot choices. And in common with many hotels these days, where was the marmalade? Although not a lover of eating in the evening, we had a group evening meal for approximately 50 of us. The staff seemed to cope very well and it went off without a hitch. The food was also pretty good.

Would stay again without hesitation. Might have to bring my own supply of marmalade though.

I was booked into this hotel as part f a group.the hotel is a typical country town hotel.I was on my own and had a single room.It was on the small side and a touch on the spartan side.the bed was quite soft.there were 2 problems with the room.Firstly it was adjacent to the kitchen extractor fan.this made quite a racket and i went down at 930pm on Friday night to find out when it would be turned off.I was told 5 minutes and that was correct. However i was warned that it would go back on at 6.45am,which it did.As i normally awake at 630 it wasnt a problem. So if you want to sleep later avoid room 5.The bathroom was like a sauna although the towel rail was off. When i was having a bath i could smell food so maybe the extractor fan in the bathroom had its wires crossed.I had to keep the bathroom door closed at all times.Breakfast was fine if,like me you are happy with a cooked breakfast.Whilst it is not the type of hotel i would book for myself it was nevertheless perfectly adequate for the purpose for which i was in Evesham.

Room Tip: Avoid anywhere near the kitchen extractor fan

Stayed here for 4 nights in late August. The restaurant and breakfast service was a complete disaster. We waited an hour for food on the night we dined there and we were not waiting the longest as nearly everybody in the restaurant complained. The owner exclaimed 'what do you expect if everybody arrives at the same time' but there are not many tables and we should have been told on arrival that delays could be expected instead of after we ordered our meal.. Breakfast service was equally bad with dirty glasses and generally poor quality of food and similar delays. Croissants, homemade bread rolls and other menu items were not evident on the buffet at all. I felt sorry for the waitresses who were trying despite the chaos. Single room was clean but very small and at £76 was pretty expensive.

We are very sorry to hear you had a bad stay. On Friday, the bistro filled up with 40+ people in less than half an hour. Our team did everything they could to manage everyone, but when you do not book, it is nearly impossible to deal with everyone.
On Sunday morning, it was brought to our attention and dealt with immediately. This was a one off issue, and we hope it will not put you off staying with us again.

One of the worse restaurants I have ever tried and it started off so promising! Heard about this recently opened restaurant and thought have to try it! Started off great, despite having not booked, we were greeted within seconds of walking through the door and asked if we would like to eat at the bistro. We were then seated on some sofas for somebody to come to take our drinks order and give us some menus. The decoration is very modern/IKEA type red, white and black with Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles and Elvis giant stickers on the wall- very nice. We didn't even really notice the long wait to get menus or a drinks order taken because we were too busy looking around! There was about 8-10 tables, 5-6 of which were in use, and about 4 sofas, again 3 of which in use. Eventually got some menus and our drinks and were seated at a table, (while leaving 2 other couples who arrived before us still sat down). Bread and dip came and only 2 slices of bread were given despite there being 3 of us. But 2 minutes later the very nice waitress came out again with a 3rd piece as she 'realised we were one short as soon as she put the plate down the first time', absolutely fine with that, made a mistake and corrected it quickly without being prompted, perfect. We ordered 3 courses and starters were probably the best part of the meal. Had the soup, watermelon and pate. After a long wait came my Rare steak.....cooked Well Done, I had to send it back, you can overlook it if you asked for Rare and it came Medium Rare, but one end of the scale to the other is not OK. While this was all going on every other table around us was also complaining, each had a completely different problem, be it the Bitter being off, or the wait to be seated or for meals or problems with a starter etc etc etc. My next steak eventually comes, by this time the 2 people eating with me had finished there meals and we had been there about 2 hours. It was a different piece of steak but it was still cooked Well Done, ate it anyway because like I said it was pushing 10 at this point. Quickly ordered desserts, Mousse, Creme Brulee and Brandy Snap Basket. Told they had run out of Creme Brulee, despite this being the River Boat festival weekend (which was actually cancelled at the last minute) so you would have thought they would have prepared enough food based on that but apparently not, so changed order to Treacle Sponge. Desserts come and fruit for Brandy Snap Basket is either going off or hard as anything, not even ripe. Treacle Sponge is dry and microwaved and treacle is rock hard on sponge making it near impossible to eat. Mousse is fine but nothing special. Was a big joke among all the clientèle about the wait, 'walked in with black hair age 25, walked out aged 62 with white hair and a coffin waiting in the courtyard' etc etc. Meal was very expensive for what it was, think it was about £100 for 3 which is fine for a proper Bistro with good quality food, but overpriced for this. Honestly go to Norton Grange 2 for 1, get more choice and a better quality meal for a much cheaper price and use some of the rest of the money for petrol to get there and pocket the rest of the savings!

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry you didnt enjoy your evening at AKs Bistro. We served over 60 persons that evening which 20 of those were walk ins. Unfortuneatly people did have to wait but everyone was served and seemed happy. The steak in question was over cooked but was changed immediately, we did run out of creme brulee but when your serving the volume we serve you do run out. We value all our customers and we have had some superb feedback and are really busy all the time with the new bistro.

We have stayed hear many times over the years! (once a year for the Evesham river festival)
always had a lovely weekend! unfortunatly in was cancelled this year July 7th 2012 1st time in 25 years (river flooded) but we still went to the Hotel, this year they have turned the resturant in to a Bistro very modern and nice looking called AKs which is were you have breakfast now, i don't no how new it was so may be its only just opened thats why no one seems to no whats happening in there! the food was ok but the service was very poor, we had to lay the table ourselves, no one asked if we wanted tea or coffee, no glasses for fruit juice, no butter, tables were very small no where to put anything had to keep moving things to another table! had to get our own milk! then when we asked if we could order breakfast now please were told it was self service in a room next door! we didnt no at the time but the night before friends were telling us that they had been for a meal at a new Bistro in town called AKs, table was booked for 8.pm didnt get in till 8.45pm and left at 11.30pm servive very poor! but food was good. Will still return next year and hope they have sorted the service problems out!!!!!!!!!!
