“Very relaxing hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

We have just enjoyed 3 nights at the Wood Norton. Excellent service with efficient considerate staff. A comfortable room and a quiet one even with weddings happening. Most enjoyable, we would definitely recommend it. It also had a beautiful garden.

Room Tip: We were in a courtyard room.

Myself and my husband stayed here for 2 nights after reviewing this hotel on the Internet. We thought it was lovely, the staff were friendly and polite. We stayed in the pear tree mews room and thought it was good value for money. Breakfast good, and the general location and views were amazing. Would come back again and definitely recommend.

I booked this hotel as a surprise birthday gift for my husband.(I originate from the Cotswolds so have a vested interest!) We arrived at the hotel prior to our sightseeing of old haunts & were informed that the room would be ready at 3.00pm. We were greeted in a polite and friendly manner & shown round the premises as we are both interested in history & architecture.
We stayed in the main building, in a large room with an excellent modern bathroom. The evening meal was excellent & as a fish lover I thoroughly enjoyed the sea trout with grilled fennel plus a small, fancy bouquet of vegetables. The mille feuille dessert of strawberries & mango was a joy to the eye & the taste buds! I noticed a number of people tasting each other's food choices... not surprising. The grounds are delightful & the flower beds which were only planted out according to the design by English heritage are only 18 months old but magnificent. The cabbage roses, lavender varieties, mint, etc wafted sensuously as one approached. Lovely terrace for slow wine drinking & enjoying the views. Breakfast was varied with hot & cold food:full english, herrings and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.... on a bagel! The american girls loved it as I did (minus the bagel but with toast) Excellent staff service & very attentive.I look forward to being back. Please note The National Trust closes its properties on a Tuesday.

Room Tip: If it is a special occasion pay for a room in the main building. It is worth it.

From start to finish we found everything contributed to a great experience. We found all the staff to be pleasant, welcoming and efficient. On arrival we sat outside in the beautiful grounds and enjoyed scones and tea. The evening meal was special, consisting of 5 courses and we found there to be enough choice. The room was fine, with a very comfortable bed and large bathroom with a shower and a bath. Lots of choice at breakfast too. A walk round the beautiful grounds is a must. Only negative is that there was a wedding reception that evening, so was quite noisy. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed in room 201 for four nights in June 2014. We had a deal, which included Pimms on the terrace.

The abiding memory of our room was that it was gloomy. There were three small windows but only three lights in the room – two were bedside lights and the light controlled by the main room switch was just a table light on the dressing table. We felt that there should have been a more substantial light for the room. Other than that the room was comfortable (if a tad “compact”). There was a reasonable amount of storage space. Bathrobes & slippers were provided – although hidden in the wardrobe (we thought they were spare pillows at first).

There was no safe in the room – in this day & age a safe should be standard.

The room had Air-Con which seemed to work OK – there wasn’t much call for it during our stay.

The bathroom had the biggest shower we have ever seen – it took well over half the space of the room. Hot water was virtually instantaneous. The usual toiletries were provided and the towels were nice and thick and large. One gripe we had was that there was not much shelf space for storing our personal toiletries.

The hotel is a good base for exploring the Cotswolds. But it is located in splendid isolation in the countryside. Whilst this meant that it was very quiet – no traffic noise – you have to drive to get anywhere. This meant that, if you wanted a drink with your meal, you were “stuck” in the hotel.

We found the food well prepared. We ate once in the main restaurant and the meal was very good but on the expensive side. We found it strange that there was a surcharge for the lamb. (It was excellent though!)

If you don’t want to eat in the Restaurant (our wallet would not be able to cope every night!) then the Hotel did offer a Bar Menu. Whilst the food was good it was a very limited Menu, which we were bored with after a couple of days.

Breakfast was reasonable. We thought there could have been more fresh fruit on offer. The hot breakfast was good – although here again there were surcharges applied if you wanted anything different to the “standard” full English. (A vegetarian option was available.)

We did enjoy the Pimms on the Terrace in the afternoon after a hard day site seeing. The Hotel has excellent grounds including a rose garden for a nice stroll.

We found all the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Any issues were promptly and efficiently resolved with absolutely no fuss.

The hotel is a good base for exploring the Cotswolds.

Room Tip: Avoid room 201 - or bring a torch

We were visiting Evesham and its villages.
This hotel is beautifully located between Evesham and Pershore and allowed us to have comprehensive access to our chosen objective. It is a beautiful old hunting lodge with links back to the Portugese Royal Family and as such is superb architecturally, both inside and out. The grounds are superb, too.
All staff, from the excellent and attentive General Manager down, were professional, polite, cheerful and helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant as 5 courses are 4 too many for us, instead we ate in the bar, where a white tablecloth was produced for our benefit. The food was freshly cooked and came to the table hot (something my wife looks for!).
All in all an excellent visit and we shall return!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the main house.

On first impressions, lovely, but then we went to our rooms in Pear Tree Mews.

The mews building has a code lock on the door, which is not set and even says it's not in use so anyone can go in and wander around. The rooms only have yale locks so not that secure either. As you walk into the reception area of Pear Tree Mews, they are re-decorating and you can see all the old mildew with paper signs apologising for the inconvenience. This doesn't create a very good impression and they'd have been better to close that section whilst redecorating.

We had accessible rooms - however, just as well I wasn't in a wheelchair as you could not get past the end of the bed so most of the room would have been inaccessible to a wheelchair user and also, the door to the ramp had to be kicked open. It was a warm evening and to get to the window you had to move a chair out of the way. The shower was also dripping and when I reported it at reception soon after checking in, the response was "oh, that's a maintenance issue" - like they didn't even care - no offer to go and send someone to have a look.

Breakfast the next day was just as bad. I asked for a hot chocolate - we don't serve hot chocolate at breakfast was the response, interesting as it's on the breakfast menu. My colleague decided to have full breakfast with a few items missing - so he suggested that it would be easier to say what he did want, and the sneer from the maitre d was very unbecoming. I decided I would have veggie sausages - no problem. Sat and waited, only to be told five minutes later there were no veggie sausages. My colleague's breakfast then got brought out - and he'd only ordered three items - but one was missing.

The breakfast staff should wake up before coming to work.

Next time, I'll stay at the Evesham Hotel instead - Quirky it maybe, but they pride themselves on a much higher level of service than this place.
