“Room with sloping floor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

The hotel is centrally located in Worcester, around 10 minutes walk from the train station. Check in and out was quick and professional. The hotel is quite large, our room was on the first floor with a small window facing the pub yard. We arrived late in the evening, thankfully the noise was minimal but the scent of cigarettes very annoying. The room had dated features and furniture with floor clearly sloping and not level. The bathroom was large but basic, the tiles and bath/shower fixtures require some proper scrubbing. Bed was comfy.
We had breakfast in the dining area of pub downstairs which has many old features. Food was ok, veggie options available, croissants, cereals, etc.

Thank you for your feedback, we apologise for the negative aspects to your stay, and hope to make steps into improvement of the tiles, which we are due to be re-grouted in a couple of our rooms. As for the slope to the floor, this is in keeping with the original features that you have mentioned, all being part of the 13th century structure of the building. We hope that you stay with us again to see if we can improve your outlook of the hotel.

I had a comfortable stay here in a spacious and clean room. I took advantage of the late breakfast and check out arrangements. No car lark, but there is a discount for guests who use the adjacent NCP car park. £7.00 for 24 hours.

I stayed here for business but I'm seriously considering a leasure break here, for the wife and I.

The hotel needs money spent considering the amount we paid for a room and if your on ground floor on the road side CHANGE your room as the noice was mad and the windows didn't even lock........ Would never go there again so please note, GET ANOTHER HOTEL.

we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay and would not return. Due to our excellent city centre location right in the heart of the city centre some external noise may be heard sadly this is beyond our control

The overall condition of the Talbot is not very clean. The furnature in the room I stayed in was very old and the bed was far too soft. The carpet had not been cleaned behind the door and there was a stained/moldy shower curtain. The window I looked out of was filthy and it was only one floor up. (so no excuse for the window cleaner). Went to the bar to get a drink waited ages to be served and paid £5 for a not very good glass of wine. Decided NOT to eat there. Breakfast in the morning was much to be desired poor service and I had two choices to sit at a dirty table or one which was half set. All I can say is im pleased I went out for dinner last night. Very poor all round would not recomend.

Having recently returned to Ye Old Talbot Worcester for a four night break over the bank holiday. What a disappointment, after such a fantastic Christmas, requested and was given same room(26). For some reason the room felt very dated, holder for ladies waste was off the wall in bathroom and left a scruffy marked plaster stain giving the bathroom a very untidy look, and the holder was left freesdanding on the shelf.I admit this was not reported to management as it was something housekeeping should have picked upon an a 2 min job to refix to wall. All breakfasts were to the usual standard but problems with Toast, later arrivals receiving toast well before ours, reason given "There was only one toaster in use in kitchen". Evening meals Friday and Saturday were very good, served hot, tasty and very good value. . SUNDAY, ordered 2 late roast,s otf the day (£9.99 for 2)the worst meal we have ever had at Old English Inns. The meat was tastless, roast potatoes overcooked,Yorkshire puddings were too greasy and gravy too salty, in fact the whole meal just seemed like a plate of reheated leftovers.Again this was not reported to the management as by this time we only wanted to get to Tuesday to vacate the room. After having a break as recent as Christmas which I would have rated willingly 20/10 , the break was just such a dissapontment.HOWEVER I do have some positive comments to make,on several times I needed to talk to or get assistace from reception and the service which we received for a gentleman known as James of Jimmy redressed some balance to my total rating which is 7/10. I think overall the hotel is badly in need of a refit and overall I still had value for what the break cost, four nights for the price of 3, but it would not have been worth any more.On closing I would like to say to any old or new visitors to Old English Inns, would I return (Already booked for Huntington) would I return toYe Old Talbot ?, Yes at some time in the future if it was revamped and tidied up a bit.

Room Tip: In all fairness on both stays at Ye Old Talbot I have stayed in room 26, the other bedrooms upstairs...

We needed a hotel to stay in after a gig on a Friday and I couldn't have chosen a nicer place. It's a great location, right in the city centre on a little cobble street with loads of nice bars and restaurants. The room was clean with a view of the cathedral, and the staff couldn't do enough for us.......even after they stopped serving food they offered to call and collect a takeaway for us. There was a lot of choice at breakfast, and again the staff were really helpful. For the price this is a great hotel to stay in, perfect location and lovely staff.
