Stayed one night on 15/2/14 for my husband's birthday. We were worried about getting to Worcester due to the floods however Anne from reception sent us travel directions and we breezed to the hotel no problem - thank you. The flood water was very high and the receptionist informed us on arrival we couldn't use the conservatory which was a shame and certain beers were not working due to the cellar flooding earlier in the week. We had room 4 in the hotel lovely views it was interesting watching the flood waters and to see how much debris there was floating down the river. The room itself was spacious nice bay window it just seemed a little dated but in keeping with the build I guess. It was an eclectic room cant really put our fingers on what we didn't like our taste is perhaps more modern but the bed was very comfortable to sleep in. One problem was the heating it was on all night and the room was too hot leading us to have a disturbed night which was a shame The bathroom was modern and clean but the shower was not that powerful. We had drinks before we went out last night and these were reasonably priced cheaper than in Worcester. Breakfast today was tasty lovely sausages!! just would of liked the toast at the table rather than doing it yourself as it was a slow toaster...... Staff friendly in the hotel. We got back to the hotel after being out last night at around 11pm and the front door was locked we had to wait some time after ringing the front door bell to be let in and were conscious of trying not to wake others in the hotels by ringing the bell. Would like to go back in the summer when we could sit out and enjoy the views in the garden its such a shame to see it flooded. Parking is a bit tight we opted for parking in the visitors parking rather than at the front of the hotel in case of more rain but it was fine.

Room Tip: ask for a river view

Thanks for your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay, because of the flooding life was a bit more hectic than usual. We were determined that the floods wouldn't affect the quality of service. Sorry about the heating if you have any problems on your next stay just call reception and they will do there best to help.
The hotel in the summer is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or drink and enjoy the view

Very awkward to find coming from the other side of the bridge but we managed to find it in the end. Lovely, quaint hotel right on the riverside. Our room was very clean with a beautifully refitted bathroom. Couple of negatives. Bath was not suitable really for somebody as big as me & who has some restricted movement. No grab rails for bath & base of bath is squared. My bum is peachy & round. It didn't fit. Ended up with a shower. Carpet needs replacing, grubby marks because they are too light for the traffic. Really let's the rest of the lovely room down. Positives beautiful taste of decor throughout the Hotel. FAB & very tasty cooked breakfast with brilliant service. Great place to eat it in overlooking the river. Defo would stay again because it was also so quiet & restful.

We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are tucked away by the Cathederal and there are are building works in Severn street but have tried to make sure that we are signs pointing to the hotel. We are aware of the carpets and they are on our list for replacing but as you probably saw we have just refurbished the bar and the William Leader room, plus all the bedrooms in the main house. The annex is next so hopefully it will be replaced by your next visit. Sorry about the bath but let us know next time you book and we will make sure that the bath is more suitable for you. Our breakfasts are cooked to order with locally sourced produce that's why they are so good and of course they are included in the room rate.
We look forward to seeing you again

We recently undertook a review of Worcester hotels in order to accommodate our corporate staff and customers and we chose the Diglis House Hotel without contest. They offered a very reasonable rate, comfortable well appointed rooms, wifi, good food (sampled during our visit) and a personable friendly service which is very important for business travellers. The feedback from our first group booking for four employees for 2/3 nights was excellent (male and female), they were particularly complimentary about the way in which they were shown to their rooms, the high standard of the rooms (executive doubles), good wifi strength and the excellent evening meals and breakfasts.

We have since booked visiting customers in, who have all provided us with very positive feedback.

Thank you Anne & the Diglis Team

I assumed when booking this hotel the tariff reflected the quality of the stay... And we were looking forward to the 1 night enjoyable break. How wrong can you be...
On arrival at 4pm.. We where told we had been upgraded! Sounded good.. Despite the unusual smell of the reception area. However on entering this upgrade room we thought this looks very tired and small to call a suite... ! The temperature of the room and especially the bathroom was cold and too uncomfortable to get changed.. We had 1hour after arrival to get changed and get to appointment in Worcester. So we mustered on...The toilet seat was too cold to sit on....! then to top it all was the sound of dogs barking started to echo through the hotel. Determined not let this start spoil the break we carried on.

I returned to my car to get our clothes, and yes, there where dogs in the hotel bar and lounge.. That explained the wet dog smell that lingered through the hotel..

The shower was totally inadequate.. There was no mirror over the dressing table, so we improvised by using the shaving mirror from the bathroom.. The cold wind blowing thought the windows was overcoming the inadequate room heating and the bathroom floor was the same temperature as the toilet seat. At least the bed linen was clean.. This was the only good point of this hotel. The iron I requested was that dirty on the bottom that it marked my clothes.

The next morning, I decided to complain and although assistant manager listened, her excuse was that it was a listed building and that the hotel was a dog friendly.. My suggestion for the owners is to convert it into a kennel, it's already to the standards required.

The manager reduced our bill, but the time is lost, I would not recommend this hotel.

All reviews are important to us but we feel that this review is a little unfair. Firstly I would like to clarify that the reviewer booked and paid for a standard double room, he was upgraded to a superior double not a suite. Our suites are river facing with four posters and seating areas. As the Assistant Manager stated the hotel is a listed building and we are not allowed to replace the windows with double glazing, with regard to the temperature all our rooms have been assessed by a Rominte engineer to ensure the correct amount of heating is placed in each room. If the room was to cold a call to reception and we would happily have moved you.
The main hotel building is furnished in keeping with the age of the hotel and mostly with antique furniture. We understand that this is not always appreciated.
Your comment about the smell and a dog kennel we found very offensive we are very proud of the hotel and do our utmost to provide an excellent service to guests and our local customers. You failed to mention in your review that you received a substantial discount because of your complaint. Incidental I found your complaint about the cold toilet seat the most unusual complaint received in 30 years in the hotel trade

I can only thank the staff for their kind attention. For circumstances beyond my control i had to attend the new years eve party on my own. I explained this to reception when i checked in and from that moment on I was given wonderful service. The Manager called my room to explain that he could not move the tables around due to party bookings. I was resigned to dining alone so it was not an issue. To my delight when i entered the dining room i found that they had placed a Teddy bear on the spare seat. This small gesture made it very easy for people to stop and chat which made my evening far more pleasant than it could have been. The waiting staff checked on me several times during the evening for which i was grateful. Sadly i too had the lamb and it was not to my taste. The pace of the evening was just fine as if dinner had finished much earlier we would have just been sitting around for midnight. My room was comfortable, warm and very quiet, I had a wonderful nights sleep once the cathedral bells stopped and the firework display from across the river. Breakfast was just fine the free range eggs were some of the best i have eaten in years. Thank you once again and every good wish for the coming new year.

Room Tip: Talk to reception, give them a chance to serve you.

It gives me no pleasure to be critical of a hotel. As leisure travellers we pay from our own pockets for these stays, often well in advance, and expect good standards. At Diglis House we were disappointed. I should say first that our room (23) was small but clean and had most of the facilities we wanted. It also had an excellent view of the River Severn flowing past and across to the Malvern Hills.
However, and these are general comments, why is there only, in a twin or double room, enough space to put one suitcase on a rack? Are we alone in taking a small suitcase each? Secondly why is the kettle full sized and too big to fit safely under the only available tap when you need to fill it? More importantly why do hotels have complicated shower fittings with no explanation of how to get a shower which is both warm and an acceptable flow rate.
The bath here was high sided with no grab rail and no anti slip mat. However a suitable mat was provided within minutes of requesting.
Our main disappointment was the New Years Eve Dinner and Disco. The evening reception with champagne and canapes at 7.30 was fine but from there it was downhill. Dinner was supposed to start at 8.30 but it was nearer 9pm which is very late. The whole meal took an age to be served and we didn't get to coffee until after 11pm which is far too late. Our chosen starter, wild game terrine , was OK but salty to our taste (which I know is a subjective comment). Our main course, local roast lamb rump, was not acceptable. It was undercooked and very pink. Several guests including my partner, had to send it back. It then came back over cooked and tough after a quick grilling. It was noticeable that there were four members of management in the room and they spent a lot of the evening placating guests who were not happy with the meal.
By the time the dessert was served it was so late in the evening that we couldn't really enjoy it.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the evening but our impression was that there were problems in the kitchen which caused the meal to be delayed.
The entertainment, disco, was supposed to start at 10.15 but it was well after 11pm before it got going.
Breakfast was OK, cooked breakfasts are cooked to order. Slices of white or brown bread were available as usual for guests to toast. There didn't appear to be any serving tongs available and I saw a member of staff use their hands to transfer a new supply of sliced bread from a plate into the bread basket on the servery counter. Definitely not the thing to do!
Finally we had booked for two nights but decided to cancel our second night. We were informed that hotel policy was that cancellations must be made by 2pm on the PREVIOUS day and we would have to pay the room charge, the information passed to us by a receptionist after consulting a member of management who failed to make an appearance to discuss it with us. OK, but don't expect us to return or to recommend the hotel to others. A brand new Premier Inn opens soon in Worcester. On our next stay in the city you'll know where to find us!

As with all reviews we appreciate constructive criticisms and do our best to rectify them. It is however only possible to do this if we are told about them at the time, I will try to give some explanation relating to your comments. With regard to your room we are glad you appreciated the view. There is only ever one luggage rack in hotel rooms and most guests simply stack their cases on it. In budget chains you don’t get a luggage rack or the choice of a twin room. I have personally been to the room today and checked on the kettle which I filled easily from the sink and all the instructions for the shower are in the hotel information booklet which is on the desk also if there had been a problem a call to reception could have resolved the matter as we did with the request for a bath mat.
The New Year’s Eve dinner was delayed slightly as it took longer than anticipated for the photographer to take everyone’s complimentary photo. With regard to your comments about the meal I believe it was discussed at the time and resolved, however you will be contacted in the near future to discuss the matter in more detail.
We have noted your comments about breakfast and will be acting on them.
Finally our cancellation policy is standard throughout the hotel industry and unless there are extenuating circumstances it is applied across the board. Obviously is everyone’s personal choice where they stay but when booking at the Diglis full English breakfast, complimentary parking and wi-fi are included in the room rate, unlike most budget chains
