Went for a look, took the tour option, guide was interesting and informative. We joined as readers and I researched some Cornish documents being Cornish. We saw art ,literature and more. We went back a second time although only there for the week. Will definitely go back and I will donate an old Cornish book that they don't possess. A must see at least once in a life time, Welsh born or not. You will need at least a day and try to go with a tour. Wow!

“Family history at the National Library”
Reviewed 2 October 2007

We went to the National Library in 2006 to research my family who come from the area around Aberystwyth, although the library holds records for the whole of Wales.
First - it's on a steep hill!. There are buses up the hill, but it's a 400m walk from the main road. If you have walking difficulties you will need to take a car, taxi or bike. We cycled up from our self-catering accommodation just below. Car parking is available next to the library. Lifts are available in the building.
On first entry you need to obtain a pass, which you will need to show every time you enter the family history area. Check out the website [--]llgc.org.uk for details. There is a dedicated section in the library for family history. Staff are helpful, especially translating from welsh to english, but are not necessarily knowledgeable about family history. Before starting, check out the small library of transcriptions etc at the far left of the room, it may save you time. Photocopies of tithe maps and apportionments are available in this area, without request.
There is no separate area for eating your own food, but the restaurant was good.
Aberystwyth itself is well worth a visit. Take the cliff railway for a splendid view and see the castle.
