“Would stay again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2007

Stayed in a dble en-suite from 1st - 6th July 2007 with husband. Paid £85 prpn including brekkie which is more expensive to my usual price of £50, but has become apparent in recent years that £50 doesn't get you a comfortable stay in the centre of any town. Our room was large, clean and with a good view overlooking houses and hills. Even had a large flatscreen TV on the wall with Freeview channels. The bar had a table looking out over the sea so I sat there having my evening tipple before bedtime. The breakfast room was in the basement so no 'views' but the breakfast itself was excellent and all the staff throughout our stay were friendly. I disagree with other reviews that it was over-priced as its in a prime location overlooking the sea, with on-site free carparking and every amenity between a 1-10 minute walk. The one-screen, one film a week, one showing a day cinema round the corner is like steping back in time. During the interval everyone runs to the hatch manned at the front for refreshments.

Myself ,My Husband and 12 year old daughter stayed in a family room for one night on the 3rd August breaking our journey up to North Wales. What can i say we were totally impressed. The room overlooked the sea and was a good size for the 3 of us.My daughter and husband were very impressed with the wall mounted flat screen TV and i was pleased with the lovely bathroom. We found the staff very friendly and the breakfast was superb they even arranged a tray of food for us to take up to our daughter who didnt emerge from her bed in time to breakfast with us. The hotel had been recently decorated and all public rooms were immaculate. We will definately visit again

Staff helpful and welcoming.Hotel in a good position on the promenade, convenient with a beautiful sea view. Plenty of parking at rear of hotel.Room clean and comfortable. Breakfast freshly cooked and tasty. Evening meal was average, lamb dinner was edible , bit like a school dinner, basic no frills . My main complaint is that it was overpriced at £90 for a double room. It has this in common with many privately run hotels in Wales , some of which are just glorified guest houses, basic accomodation but no style .The standards suffer because hoteliers in Wales do not on the whole have to compete with the multinational chains of hotels who can offer style, quality , amenities and special deals and offers. Big is not always best but I feel the small hotelier must offer something unique and different if holiday makers are to return.

Based purely on the hotel's tariff I had great expectations of my stay at The Richmond Hotel.

I booked direct and was quoted a price of £90 per night - for a double sea facing en-suite room on a B&B basis for the weekend of 9-10 June 07. The lady who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful. I asked for one of the better rooms, seeing as it was a special occasion, my partner's birthday weekend. She confirmed that we could have room 8 on the first floor. I was also assured that ALL rooms were of a high standard and all recently refurbished.

Upon arrival, the check-in process was personal, warm and friendly, as was the entire stay at the hotel. I was a little surprised at the lack of a night doorman, we were given two keys, one for the room and one for the hotel's front door. However, this didn't bother us too much. As for the room itself - well on first impressions I found it to be a little on the small side. However, the bathroom extended to the rear of the hotel with a nice view of the garden. Both rooms were spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable, toiletries (soap, shampoo and bath/shower gel) were good quality, tea and coffee tray included drinking chocolate and mineral water, plus I was totally impressed with the TV - a wall mounted flat widesceen tv with crystal clear reception and with a good choice of satellite and terestiral channels. Oh and the view from the bedroom window of the ocean was breathtaking, simply amazing!

Overall, I was totally impressed with the hospitality provided by the staff and owners of the hotel. The public rooms were newly and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was good, with a choice of fresh fruit, fruit juices, cereals, yogurts and a full Welsh Breakfast menu, cooked to order and not buffet style. On the 2nd night we decided to dine in the Hotel's restaurant and the experience was delightful. The dining room had some amazing views, the menu was full of good traditional dishes with nothing too pretentious, the food was professionally prepared, cooked and presented..... and the deserts were spectactular.

Were my expectations fulfilled? YES! This Hotel is Great!

Slightly overpriced, however I think you're paying to get the wonderful view over the ocean & the promenade. We had a good sized, comfortable room. My only complaint, & it's not really even a complaint, is that I didn't care for the breakfast room being in the basement. Overall a nice stay.

Arrived in Aberystwyth and parked in the small carpark at the back of the hotel. The room was clean comfortable and with a sea view. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the evening meals were superb. The hotel bar felt cosy and friendly. Definitely worth staying in again.
