The setting is lovely, the rooms very comfortable, with free wi-fi, TV etc, the usual. It's in a good location for sightseeing all round mid-Wales. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, and there is a small lift if you can't manage the stairs. But the food...... When I die and go to heaven, the food won't be any better than this. The breakfasts are superb, the evening meals ditto. Enjoy.

This is a hotel that struck me as one where there are new owners in place, who are trying to raise the standards of the hotel. The positives are:
Nice bar and dining area, good views, lots of parking, friendly staff.
Downsides are:
The room I stayed in needed refurbishment - stained ceiling, cracks in plaster and generally very tired appearance; food was average at best - the vegetables served with the main course were cold and thus inedible (I mentioned this to the waitress, who simply noted my comment and left it at that). Breakfast was nice though.

Given the above and the location, I think it is a little overpriced.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Visited late May, 1 night (next time we'll stay longer). Hidden from A487 by shady tree-lined drive and flanked by lawn, sheep pasture and nearby farms. Easy to reach by car. Quiet is interrupted only by songbirds. Ample, convenient, safe parking. Ask for the Magnolia Room - newly renovated, lovely large suite overlooking lovely pastoral scene. Separate from but easy 1/2 minute walk to manor house. (There were no weddings during our stay; the Magnolia Room would be a reasonable distance from wedding activity held in the Manor house.) The Magnolia feels very private, with an excellent bed, good storage and comfortable chairs. The bathroom is large, well-lit, with new upscale modern plumbing (excellent shower) and gleaming marble and large mirrors. No WIFI in our room but was free and available in dining room and bar in manor house. There are several comfortable lounge areas in stately, lovely old manor house, and a friendly staff; and the dining rooms are quite nice, also with gorgeous views. Dinner was uninspired. Breakfast, however, was well prepared, hearty, using high quality, fresh ingredients, and much enjoyed. Less than 10 minutes south of Aberystwyth, the hotel is in little Chancery, which is more quiet, safer and far easier to access than any hotel we saw in the city. Perfect for women traveling alone. This is a "hidden gem".

The staff were friendly without being obtrusive, lovely food, beautiful setting, large comfortable room in the Magnolia Courtyard, can't find anything to criticise - a very enjoyable 2 night stay.

First impressions were OK and the entrance has an impressive staircase. Unfortunately as with many British hotels it did not live up to expectations. We had 2 double rooms both long overdue refurbishment. An eclectic mix of furnishings which included a chair in each room that you couldn't sit in without putting cushions down to sit on - very uncomfortable. Bathrooms were even worse with carpet on the floors and one of them had very dirty stained carpet and skirting boards, the bath panel was rotten and falling off. Because of our late arrival we opted to eat in the hotel bar. The bar area had recently been refurbished and was OK, the food was good when it came but as with all the service at this hotel we had to wait for a long time. We got the feeling they were understaffed and maybe had just taken over the hotel. Having said that all the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. If the owners refurbish the bedrooms and bathrooms and sort out their service, they have a nice hotel with potential.
