We've stayed at the Conrah several times now, and each one has been a really pleasant experience.

This time it was an overnight stop on a student replenishment trip! The online booking system worked very well, and we had a very pleasant welcome at the hotel. Our room was on the 2nd floor (which was undergoing some re-decoration at the time but we were not disturbed by this at all). Our room had been recently refurbished, and was very clean bright and airy, together with a fabulous view down the valley towards Aber. Only shortcoming was a lack of water pressure for the shower (which I understand is being looked at as part of the ongoing refurbishment of the hotel)

Whilst we didnt eat in the hotel that evening, the dinner menu looked very interesting, and reasonably priced.

The following morning we had an excellent full Welsh breakfast, and again were looked after by the very friendly and pleasant staff.

Overall we both really like staying here. It has a lovely warm atmosphere about it, the rooms have been excellent, and the team of staff are very welcoming and friendly. Whilst a little way out of the town, I think this adds to the sense of it being a nice relaxing place to have a break. It was great to chat to the owners as we were checking out; they have such a passion for the place, and such great plans. It will be a pleasure to come back to visit to see how they are getting on!

Highly recommended.

My mother-in-law has had a rough time over the last 6 months looking after her husband who was being treated for cancer. Thankfully he's recovered, but his mood and temper would have tried the patience of a saint. We took her away to the Conrah for a treat and when the owner knew the circumstances they upgraded mum-in-law to a top floor newly refurbished suite and put us next door (good room and due for refurbishment soon). The chef agreed to expand the evening menu to put on her favourite dishes, and the food was excellent.
Nothing was too much trouble; they even threw in a bottle of wine at dinner, yet the price for dinner bed and breakfast was only £15 more than the standard single/double room B&B.
Excellent service and a trip away that mum-in-law really enjoyed, giving her a real boost just when she needed it. A great personal touch, but not in any way intrusive.

Room Tip: The bungalows are modern and very well fitted, but you'll need to walk outside to get to the mai...

My wife and I spent two nights here and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The beds were comfortable, the bath was spacious, the extras were great (hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee service in the room with biscuits; free parking; pleasant staff; tasty breakfast) and the stay was without a hitch. We did not eat supper here during our stay so cannot comment on the dinner menu, but the breakfasts were excellent and the views are out of this world. Aberystwyth is a shore town and several hotels are down by the sea, which this is NOT. However, you can drive to the promenade and park and sea the water if you like (high tide can cause waves to crash on the street) but there is little danger. Aberystwyth is home to the National Library of Wales, with archives and manuscripts galore. It also is a University town which doubles in size during school terms. We visited Alfred Place Baptist Church, and English speaking congregation, and felt quite welcomed. Back to Conrah Hotel, we found the price reasonable for the facility (it is an old spacious house, well appointed and quite well kept up) and would love to come again.

This was planned as a one-night splurge, but the cost wasn't that much more than the so-so B&B in another town. In its present incarnation, most of the house dates from about a century ago and has lovely public spaces. My room was spacious and comfortable. Dinner in the hotel, looking out plate glass windows to an amazing view of the river valley in one direction and the gardens in the other was also intended as a splurge but wasn't all that expensive and was delicious. The staff was very helpful and managed to direct me to the Vale of Rheidol Railway ju-u-ust in time to catch the afternoon run. The gardens were lovely for strolling. It was a wonderful treat, and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Stayed one night in large airey room, poorly furnished but large, comfortable bed. Price around £95

Found it odd that our two complimentary ginger biscuits on the bedside table were unwrapped and sitting on top of a glass 'top' gleaned from another dish. As there were flies in the room we didn't partake of the offering. and could understand why there was a mass of spiders webs fastening the large chest to the wall. There was a bottle of spring water also.

The bathroom was fine, with excellent shower...which counts for a lot. Good towels, toiletries etc.

Breakfast offered smoked haddock. Unfortunately it was the dyed variety and had obviously been 'boiled' from frozen. The poached egg was very good. The central table offered cereals etc. but jam and marmalade had been decanted onto large cereal dishes...

The owners were friendly and willing to help in various ways. A pity I couldn't give a more positive report as it could have been so much better and I'm sure the owners do have their guests best interests at heart.

We stayed at the Conrah for 5 nights (was supposed to be 4, but we were desperate to have one more night in such a lovely hotel). The whole experience was 100% perfect. Our room was a standard double but it was well above standard. The bed was extremely comfortable with soft and silky fresh white finest Egyptian cotton linen. Lots of extra pillows were provided, extra blankets if required. We had lots of soft, fluffy towels in the en suite bathroom, a range of high quality toiletries and even two fluffy towelling bath robes. The shower was powerful with nice hot water any time of day. The hospitality tray has not only the usual array of teas and coffees, but also hot chocolate, complimentary designer water and fresh home-baked cookies provided every day. The TV is modern, with a high quality digital flat screen. If you are in the main hotel, you can receive Wi-fi in your room and not just the public areas. The room, in fact all rooms, are really tastefully decorated. Each room has its own character with luxurious fabrics for the curtains, bed throws and armchairs. The furniture is beautifully made, there are lots of places for your clothes, books, laptop etc. It is very easy to feel instantly at home (if home is a stately home!) and we felt very special enjoying the comfort and care which has been taken in every detail.

The views from any windows in the country manor hotel are just breath-taking. The hotel is set in the most gorgeous location with rolling hills, sheep grazing, in a beautiful landscaped garden. Everywhere you look there is a wonderful vista. Car parking is free and plentiful, and the hotel is easy to find with a large lit sign outside and a long drive sweeping up to the front of the main building. On entering, you are presented with the reception hall which is straight from a romantic Victorian country house novel. The public rooms are beautifully presented with sumptuous decoration, lovely period furniture, and you are very welcome to sit in either the quiet lounge/drawing room and enjoy the ambience or sit in another public room which has a bar and again, is decorated and furnished to a very high standard.

Breakfast is fantastic. There are lots of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurt, danish pastries and croissants, selection of various jams and even figs. I had the Welsh cooked breakfast which was wonderfully tasty with every item free range. One of us had the smoked salmon and fluffy free range scrambled egg which was again delicious and beautifully presented. The fresh coffee was also smooth and served with either milk or fresh cream. Really, there was so much choice, and all top quality, beautifully cooked items. We couldn't have wished for more.

There are so many other aspects to what was a wonderful stay, but my last comment is regarding the staff. Every single person we encountered at the Conrah was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, There is an atmosphere of warmth, friendliness and we felt very sad to leave. It was such a lovely experience. If you are looking for somewhere which is quiet, stylish, luxurious, friendly and set amongst the most gorgeous countryside where you can really feel special and spoilt, then this is the place.
