It's a lot of ruins - with no real detail of what once was - or happened there - and there are spots used as dumping grounds for rubbish, graffitt and who knows what else in the shadows.

A good focal point for photography - and the war memorial at the front is quite something. But all in all - some ruins which need more story to go with them. On the plus - it's totally free to run around it!

The castle is a lovely slow walk among the ruins while taking in the beautiful scenery the sea looking down the coast and also views of the surrounding houses. The ruins take you back to times long ago. Why not take time to have a walk.

Just amazed at the age of this castle. It was so neat to walk around and take in the site.We took lots of pictures there. The day was sunny but windy up on that hill. Your are high up in the bay and can see everything!

First visit to Aberystwyth and what a joy. A piece of history in a spectacular setting, which was clearly popular as a place to gather on our visit. Given on the day we visited it was wall to wall sunshine, why not indeed. Despite being busy with folk occupying picnic tables and grass areas in singles, couples and groups there was no rowdy behaviour just a sense of sit back and enjoy. Yes the castle is a ruin (aren't most as a result of the Civil War) but this castle is free and the ruins are in good order and the gardens well-tended. I can think of upteen castles in the UK where you'll pay a not inconsiderable entry fee for less.

Whilst there, do spend a little time respecting the Welsh memorial to the fallen war heroes. It is a grand monument, which would not look out of place in a capital city. It's a credit to the town.
