This is NOT a ‘fashionable’ or ‘boutique’ hotel. It’s not even terribly co-ordinated or well-decorated: there’s carpet in the bathroom and the breakfast tables are so poky you can’t even spread out a newspaper if you’re eating with your spouse or friend. BUT it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. And that counts for an awful lot. With its outstanding seafront location, spacious rooms, comfortable and clean beds and beautiful views it is realistically and affordably priced and somehow I just fell in love with its calmness. It has a ‘real’ ambience to it – not a flashy ‘Welsh-slate-en-suite-bathroom-and-luxury-toiletry’ pretentiousness and coldness that some of its neighbouring establishments certainly do have. Lovely. (Could do with sorting out wi-fi in *all* rooms, though.)

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view and watch the sunset.

The staff are really helpful, and the food is good (I had the breakfast), but the hotel bedrooms lets them down. It's all a bit dated, with peeling, damp wallpaper, crack in ceilings and just generally shabby.

Hotel has a great position, friendley and helpful staff, our room was clean and the bath and shower were excellent. The food varied. The breakfasts were superb but the evening meals were poor. Some were tasteless and the length of time taken to cook and serve a three course meal was usually between one and a half and two hours. Car parking was ok opposite the hotel on the front (No restrictions) We would go back for B&B but not for a break which included evening meals.

We didn't actually stay at this hotel (thank goodness), but chose it for Sunday Lunch to celebrate Mother's Day. What a mistake! When we complained about the extremely undercooked meat, we were told that they always served the beef "pink". Some of our servings were adequately cooked (brown, not pink!), but the beef served to my daughter and 5 year old grand-daughter was "swimming" in bright red blood, definitely not just "pink". The staff could not see why we found this unacceptable, although they did replace my daughter's meal with a lamb dinner. My grand-daughter was so upset and traumatised by the gory offerings that she would accept no replacement, not even ice-cream. Even without the nauseating meat the meal was, at best, mediocre with tasteless, watery gravy. We were offered no recompense for the complete ruination of our Mother's Day, for which our daughter had travelled 80 miles to join us.

Spent a lovely 2 nights at this hotel whose bar looks out over the seafront in Aberystwyth. The nice large sized bedroom (number 25) and despite looking out onto a wall, was very quiet, and had a pleasant sofa area, and a lovely bathroom. Nice freebies!! Pleasant staff. Lovely to eat breakfast or have a drink looking out over the sea. then a nice hot bath after a brisk walk along the prom.

Without a doubt the selling point for the Belle Vue is its prominent location on the seafront, with a full panorama view from the pier right down to the cliff railway. We had both glorious sunshine and howling rain during our stay, and looking from the bedroom window was spectacular regardless (and cosy when it was cold & wet).

As some other reviews have mentioned, the actual hotel is a bit past its best these days in terms of decor and the breakfast menus (when's the last time someone offered you fried bread?!), but in the places it counts - ie friendly staff, spacious comfortable bedrooms and beds, and location for the town, it's a recommended place to stay.

Oh, and something important for Aberystwyth and its limited street parking - it has its own (small) car park....

If you can get a sea view, you'll be glad to have stayed here, if you've a smaller room/ at the back without a sea view then there are probably better places to check out.
