“There should be a Belle Vue Royal in every seaside town”

We spent two nights at the Belle Vue Royal. We had a lovely large room with a fabulous view over the promenade and sea. The hotel is undergoing sympathetic refurbishment to restore it to its former glory. The staff are so friendly and polite. The breakfasts were superb. We had an evening meal there which was very high class. We absolutely loved it.

The hotel / guest house was undergoing some refurbishment downstairs. Hopefully the bedrooms will be next! décor and furniture dated. decent size bed room but had a noisy well worn bed and being at the back of the building also had the drum of the boiler so not a good nights sleep, on the plus side the view from the restaurant and bar is classic sea front, and it was reasonably priced for what is was. Staff were very polite. There own car park was full so had to find a space along the prom so expect that to take a while if its sunny (busy). As my stay required an early start (7.30) I was a little disappointed that breakfast did not start until 8 , but they did accommodate with non-cooked alternative. I would not discount it from a further visit, would not want room 30 though!

Wonderful room overlooking the sea on Monday night. Twin room for £75 pounds for two including breakfast. Full English breakfast with spicy sausage, eggs, bacon, beans, tomatoes, fruit, yogurt, toast, coffee, and juice. Did not book in advance just popped in. Windows were 8 feet tall and the sunset was majestic over the sea. Bathroom was reflective of 200 year old hotel with updates. I found it charming. The drapes and bed covering were faded but clean. A little updating on these and it would be a 4.5 star. Lovely , grand old lady.

Room Tip: Only get a room overlooking the sea.

Having been taken over by new owners this place has really come into its own. The food was equally as good as any city restaurant. Bit dated decor but under renovations so definitely will get better and better. New owner is very helpful and friendly talking to the diners personally to check satisfaction.

I stayed here for 2 nights with family and friends. It was a last minute decision and with nowhere else available on the waterfront I booked here, a bit nervously after seeing mixed reviews. First impressions were good and we were checked in with no bother. I was stunned when I saw the room, a triple on the ground floor with a sea view. It was huge and easily have slept twice as many. The furniture wasn't the best but perfectly acceptable. The bathroom was a bit worn and dated but clean with an excellent powerful shower unlike a lot of places where water pressure is a trickle.
We went out to eat in the town on a bank holiday Saturday to find everywhere we tried full. We were almost heading to a fried chicken place for a take away when we tried one more place by the hotel. They were full as well but recommended the Belle Vue as they said the chef was very good.
So it was back to the hotel after a long walk. All five of us had excellent meals, especially the two steaks. The recommendation was well deserved.
All in all this hotel was better than expected and I would stay again. The only down side stopping me giving a 5 was the breakfast, not good enough, quality and quantity, which was a surprise given the quality of the evening meals.

Room Tip: Room 50, a triple on the ground floor with a sea view. Very good. Also room 47, 2nd floor, sea vie...

I have chosen this hotel on several occasions while visiting this city. While it is a little old, the rooms are clean, the staff are helpful, and things like the Internet service generally work just fine. There are a few quirks (for example, the milk in the tea/coffee milk jugs on the table was a little off one breakfast), generally this is better priced and with better service than most locations in the UK, and their offering of food and drink is better than the standard British breakfast.

When it comes to the star rating I wanted to choose "Above Average" rather than "Very Good", but that option does not exist on Trip Advisor. I'd put this at 3.5 stars rather than 4, and I would say that it's well-worth considering if you are visiting this lovely seaside town.

Room Tip: A sea view room, naturally...

We had a family room with a sea view. The room was plenty big enough, with a double and 2 single beds, and the view was fantastic. Everything was clean but it was all very dated and shabby. I know that refurbishment is expensive and takes time, but new bedding would have been a relatively easy thing to do. The duvet cover was frayed and had the life washed out of it long ago. The bathroom was clean but again dated and worn. Plenty of hot water though.

The staff were friendly and helpful both in reception and the dining room. Breakfast was superb, with the scrambled eggs cooked to perfection on both days, soft as they should be.

When the rooms reach the standard of the staff, food and view this will be great plce to stay.
