Parking in the car park we found the space was very cramped and a little bit of litter picking up would not of gone amiss, if anyone has lost a pair of boxer shorts, they are in the car park !, The receptionist was ok but a few more smilies would help, she doesn't come across as if she enjoys her job and the way that she asked for payment upfront was brusque. We stayed in room 221 Deluxe which has an excellent sea view from the bay window. We really did not think that it justified the £130 price tag. The shower had very little pressure so drizzled out, there was a clump of hair in the bath plug hole and the double taps where very loose. The whole room felt like it needed a good spring clean, dust around the bed feet and looked like the only areas that had been cleaned was the bits that where easy to get too. We only stayed one night and would definately have complained if we had stayed longer, We had slept in the bed and pulled back the heavy bedspread and it was only the next morning that we saw just how dirty the bed spread was, as far as too say that here was effidence of previous occupants !! UCK. Its the little things that the hotel need to address, when selling a delux room, mould around the bath, sealant around the bath very poorly done, ill fitting bathroom fittings and flooring, lack of shelve space in the bathroom, the list could go on. The owners of this hotel need to spend time and look at their rooms as if they were the paying guest. On the plus side the breakfast was excellent as were the waiting staff.

My daughter was graduating from Aber Uni and had booked myself (mum) and her teenage sister into the Marine Hotel in a 'twin' room at a cost of £75 per night B & B. The 'room' turned out to be a tiny narrow space under the eaves which just fitted a single bed one end and another single at the other. Due to a thick wooden beam inches above the second bed, it could only be accessed by lying down and sliding sideways onto the bed. It was filthy - brown stains on the carpet - peeling old yellowing wallpaper and bedding that I would have put on the tip. I was horrified. The shared bathroom had shower gel but no shower, missing tiles and holes in the wall. There couldn't have been more of a contrast with the chandeliers in the hotel entrance. I said the room was appalling and gave them the opportunity to change but they said they were full and when asked if they could help us to find alternative accommodation, they did not care and were totally unhelpful just saying everywhere would be full. We trawled the seafront and were very lucky to find a beautiful seafront B & B - huge room - bay window with sea view - chairs - television - fantastic breakfast (and a saving of £50 on the Marine Hotel). This hotel should be boycotted unitil it cleans up its act and stops fleecing the parents of Aber students by offering such diabolical accommodation and service. Beautiful Aberystwyth deserves better than this!

I came here to stay when I came for the university open day. A lovely hotel, decent rooms which were clean and a nice cooked buffet breakfast in the morning. There are facilities such as a spa and (I think) pool but I dont know what they are like. I would recommend it, despite the price.

Stayed in this hotel for business for one night. Pros: Amazing views, some really nice staff, good breakfast, free wifi. Cons: almost everything else.

Room, though big wasn't especially clean and had the most eccentric decor and range of furniture I've seen in a while. The bed was meant to be a double but was two large single beds inexpertly joined together and was pretty uncomfortable as a result. The beautiful view of the sea and the bay was available through a draughty bay window into which had been squeezed two leather armchairs and a tatty old table. The view was rather spoiled by the dirty windows and the cobwebs. Bathroom was a bizarre arrangement behind a 1960s style partitioned off section of the room. It had been cleaned but the grouting on the shower was really dirty. Ick.
My booking included dinner, which was mostly inedible, although the waitress was really lovely. I had all her full attention, mind you, as I was the only person in the large restaurant. Breakfast the next morning was much better and the lovely Phillipino waiter was a delight. The reception staff could do with a week at charm school, though.

I really wouldn't stay here again, which is a shame because quirky, independent hotels are a dying breed and with a bit of work and elbow grease this hotel would be vastly improved.

We stayed in one of the 2nd floor sea view rooms. The check in / out was ok.

We parked in the small parking space around the back of the hotel - it is small, probably not room for more than four cars. There are parking restrictions in the neighbourhood.

Room was clean. No problems with shower or other room fittings. The beds were a little springy for our liking but not sagging or anything like that. I would have prefered the option of sheets as is was a bit on the warm side and the duvets seem to be fairly high tog - but removing the duvet from its cover provided the necessary sheet!

The hotel was moderately busy but wasn't noisy.

Breakfast was plentiful and ok.

This is a traditional British seaside hotel and one that is in far better condition than many of them that I've visited.

On Checking in we discovered that although a double had been booked we were given a twin room, I was aware the hotel was full this weekend but the room they gave us was up in the attic !!! There was a fan on the floor by the one single bed and was on high when we got in, we weren't to sure why until we removed our shoes and the carpet from window to bed was soaking wet !!! The whole room had a musty damp smell.

The bin under the desk was full of the previous guests dirty tissues and tea/ coffee packets.

We went down to complain and were offered a alternative room with no hot water but we could share a bathroom with someone else !!!

We kept our room as we had to be in south Wales by lunch time the next day so we needed to get up shower and leave..

On getting up we realised that we couldn't do this as there was no hot water!! We rang reception and were advised to run the taps as that sometime made it work !! We did this on and off for an hour before we had to leave.

We tried to complain to someone before we went but the manager was dealing with several other complaints, we waited as long as we could before leaving.

I have emailed several times since our return and am yet to have any correspondence acknowledged by this hotel.

Shoddy rooms and shoddy service AVOID unless you are guaranteed to get one of there refurbished rooms !!!

There are some very diverse reviews of this hotel on TripAdvisor, and I think this is because it has some excellent features and some poorer ones also.

On the plus side: absolutely fantastic views from the large sea view windows of the sun setting over Bae Ceredigion. Very comfy beds (although quite small in the twin rooms). Great buffet-style full Welsh breakfast with very friendly restaurant staff. Great location in central Aberystwyth. Even though the hotel's small rear car park was full, there was ample free street parking available directly nearby.

Less so good: Very small room, smaller than you'd expect in a newly-built hotel (but perhaps what you might expect for a traditional Victorian seafront hotel). Except for the new flatscreen TV, the equipment in room (such as the iron/ironing board and hairdryer) were pretty old-fashioned. Because of its placement directly above the shower, the bathroom smoke alarm sounded whenever the shower was switched on and the bathroom door closed (pretty annoying at the time!)

Although this is a mixed review, with its fantastic view, comfortable beds and very good breakfast, I would still say that this hotel would be a good, safe choice for a stay in Aberystwyth.

Room Tip: Sea-facing rooms with a bay window will give a fantastic, open-window view of Bae Ceredigion over Ab...
