“Felt let down”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

We went to Wales for a family funeral and so when booking asked that we could check in early. The person advised that would be fine. When we arrived after travelling six hours we were told that we could not get in to the room until two and that there was nit a note about early checkin. After done checking with their cleaning staff it appeared our room was ready so sorted in the end. The cleanliness of the room was good, however one of the two cups was cracked all the way round and we had to get this changed only small but after long journey a drunk of tea is always welcome. We used the attached restaurant for our evening meal and was told half an hour for a table, that's fine, however when welsh people come in they were seated before us. When we did get our table again other welsh people were ordering after us but getting their food before and we did not gave anything different. . Staff at the bar just walked away without serving so really not impressed which is a share as I will always tip well on good service. Breakfast is included and the quality was good but again as we were not welsh we had to go up and ask for extra coffee whereby they were offered it. It was as game that we were treated like this and or this reason would not recommend this hotel which is a shame.

Good base for a night or two, this new hotel is very much like a Premier Inn, but on a smaller scale, the rooms are nowhere near as roomy as Lenny Henry's hotel of choice, but plenty big enough for most people's needs.

The room had a full bathroom, plenty of towels, LCD TV, tea and coffee making facilities, all the usual. Extra pillows were available in the room and air conditioning too. Previous comments about hanging space etc are absolutely right, but I figure this is more of a brief stopover kind of place.

Next door to the hotel block. There is a pub/restaurant that serves pretty good food, especially if you like chicken, it's very typical mass market appeal like a Weatherspoons, but plenty good enough for a bit of food and a beer with friends or family.

Parking on-site was excellent. No complaints at all.

We stayed here for only one night and were very impressed. Finally, someone in the UK has got it right! Good food at a good price. Friendly and efficient staff. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet - the 3 basics of travelling. Breakfast was more than we expected. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

We stayed at The Starling Cloud for one night. The hotel itself was very clean, with everything you could need. The room was spacious with air-conditioning and the bed was very comfortable.
I was very impressed by the hotel but as with other reviews the service from the staff could be improved. The service at check-in was good, we also had a drink in the pub and again great service, very attentive, It was all going very well until breakfast the next morning, we were seated very quickly, however no-one came to take our order (around 20 minutes) and in the end we had to get up from our seat and try to find a member of staff. That said when the food did finally arrive it was very good.
Overall this did not completely taint my view as staff can be trained, the hotel is very nice and I would stay again.

The hotel is more like a pub with rooms in the building next door, but the welcome was good and my room was clean and in good condition. Both the rooms and pub are fairly new and nicely decorated.
I stayed here as I was working close by. I arrived by train and it was an easy walk to and from the station and into town, although I only ventured as far as a quick seafront walk one evening.

The positives here are a comfortable room at a good price, which is conveniently located if you don't need to be in the town centre/sea-front of Aber. Room size was good, although a lack of drawers/hooks would be annoying for a longer stay.

There was, however, quite consistently poor service - rang to confirm check-in and staff were grumpy that we were arriving after 9pm ("Definitely before 10" as the man on the phone said) despite an advertised arrival time of up till 10:30pm. Breakfast was extremely slow both mornings (40 mins+), with errors in the order, and other poor service eg grainy coffee being poured by staff using dregs of a pot.

I don't want to be too down on the place - it was clean and comfortable and an OK-to-good price, but the service left the place weaker than comparable chain motels/budget hotels.

Stayed here for two nights recently, and although the room was very good and spotlessly clean, the customer service in the Restaurant was absolutely abysmal. The food is good both for quality and quantity, but the dining service is terrible such as serving wrong drinks, missing cutlery and side plates plus the obvious cup and saucer at breakfast also no glasses for orange and also no orange it goes on and on. Then taking nearly half an hour to checkout because the bill was all to balls. I would recommend this hotel if you want to Stay in "Fawlty Towers".
