“Small but good value”
Review of Commodore Cinema

Commodore Cinema
Attraction details
Reviewed 7 May 2014

It's a small, old but reasonably priced cinema in a location that is easy to get to. I'd say it's well worth a visit if you are in town and at a loose end. That said, if you are at a loose end in a historic seaside village, perhaps a nice stroll along the sea or in the hills would be a better choice for your health and your heart.

Despite the lack of variety due to its small size the Commodore is an old fashioned cinema with character and at £5 for a 3D ticket you can't argue with the price.

Commodore Cinema would be at least a 4 star establishment if it were not the only normal sized theatre in town. It only has one screen, which means that the variety of films it is able to show is extremely limited, and each film is only ever available for a few days. There are also very long adverts before the beginning of the regular previews and an intermission which I've found irritating during each of my visits. Unfortunately, since the theatre is so tiny, there is a very real possibility that a show might sell out, so you have to get there before the adverts and sit through them to get a decent seat. The overall quality is quite good though. The seats are pretty comfortable, and the picture quality and sound are top-notch, even in 3-D. It has a classic theatre atmosphere, which makes it an overall good place to watch a film.

I love that here they have an ice cream/drink break as the adverts finish. The bar downstairs means you can take a pint into the film too!
