“Excellent Guesthouse Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Anyone staying here should recommend this Guesthouse to anyone, Aberystwyth is Lovely place and you come out of the front door to a fantastic view of the beach, book early for a sea view, however all room in the Guesthouse are very pleasant indeed, en-suite shower and bathroom everything you could wish for and at a very reasonable price.
Breakfast is excellent staff are willing to accomodate any reasonable requests such as scrambled egg, exta Toast,Tea Etc., very friendly service. Joan and her Husband are very friendly i would highly recommend staying here to anyone. Eugene & Joyce Raby (TELFORD)

Room Tip: Book early if you want a sea view

Excellent, very clean and well run little hotel with wonderful sea views.A really good breakfast nothing was too much trouble. The waves lulled us to sleep after a busy day and woke up refreshed. I'm sure we will stay here again… Our window DID open so we had a lovely sea breeze.

We have been coming back to Aber every year for approx 20 years since we graduated and the only place we feel at home is at the Helmsman!! The location is superb in the middle of the promenade and we always ask for a seaview room - we can happily sit at our window for hours watching the world go by. The rooms are very spacious for a B & B and have everything you could need for a good nights stay. Joan and Tony are also very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We are already planning our next visit!!

Room Tip: Room 2 is amazing!!

We stayed at this lovely B&B for a 3 night stay over Father's Day weekend. The location is unbeatable - right on the seafront, a 5 minute walk from the train station. We received a warm welcome from Joan. We had 2 rooms, she said they both had a sea-view but we weren't expecting such an amazing sea view! We had the windows open to listen to the sea, it was fantastic. The rooms were lovely, beds comfortable. Breakfast was really nice - cereals, fruit and juice and then cooked breakfast done really nicely. The staff were all so friendly, helpful and chatty. The rates were unbelievably reasonable. They have done so well restoring the place after the damage done by the storms - you would never know it had happened! We loved our stay here and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!

What a disappointment this hotel is. We had treated ouselves to a night overlooking the sea. And we did have a sea view. But as the windows were glued tight we didn't get that fresh sea air. The room was stale and stuffy and had seen better days. I asked for fresh coffee at breakfast and was told they hadn't got a grinder! Pathetic. And the rest of the breakfast was boring, boring, boring. Management - make an effort! We won't be coming back or recommending it.

The B&B looks clean and inviting from the exterior and has private off-road parking at the rear. I stayed for two nights in a room on the top floor with a sea view. The room was basic but functional and the bed was very comfortable but the ensuite was overdue a refurb in my opinion with bits falling off here and there.
The cooked breakfast was slightly disappointing in terms of amount and lacking in flavour but the staff were polite and helpful.
As mentioned by previous guests, the staircase to the top floor is quite a trek and it got very warm up there too so those that may struggle with this just be aware.
Over all the B&B was good but compared to others I have stayed at in the town it was very slightly over priced for what you get.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are a trek to get to up the endless staircase.

This sumer my husband and I were visiting relatives in Swansea and decided to do some sightseeing in Western Wales. While traveling my husband became ill and landed in the hospital in Aberystwyth for 9 days.We had no plans of spending the night let alone 9 days.Despite the busy season the 1st night I was there I managed to get a room at the Helmsman. When Tony and his staff learned of my dalima they managed to make sure I had a room for the entire time my husband was in the hospital.I had to change rooms 3 times ..all of the rooms were clean and comfortable. The hospitality and concern Tony and his staff showed me was amazing. An experience I shall never forget.I would not hesitate to stay here again.
