We've been on rib rides in the past, and had previously set off from Caernarfon towards Newborough seal watching, so thought we'd do something different and travel the opposite way, up the Menai Straits towards Bangor.
We contacted Paul at West Coast Ribs (got a flyer from the Ship's Chandlers @ Doc Fictoria) and arranged to meet him the next day at Doc Fictoria. We turned up in our own waterproof gear, but they provide some if you don't have any. A quick instruction in safety and we were off.
Both Paul and Bill were very knowledgeable about the Menai, giving useful commentary as we went. The boat was clean and dry, and although we went fast, the ride was smooth. We went past Y Felin Heli, under the 2 bridges and through the swellies, before turning round and returning back via Nelsons' statue. The kids (14 & 10) particularly enjoyed the sharp turns/figures of eight that Paul did as we approached Caernarfon.
We've been to Caernarfon and Anglesey many times, but this trip allowed us to look at the Menai Straits from a completely different angle. I spotted stuff I hadn't seen before, and to return back without getting a single drop of sea water on me was a bonus!!
Paul & Bill were extremely helpful and nice guys, and we would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a rib ride around the Menai/Anglesey.
