“Modern hotel in a new complex”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

Victoria Dock is a complex of modern buildings that encompasses restaurants and flats; the Premier Inn is right in the middle. My wife and I stayed five nights whilst we explored this beautiful part of Wales. Our room was standard Premier Inn quality: nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. The view from the window of Room 201 consisted mainly of a moss-covered flat roof, but on the other hand, the adjoining Table Table restaurant where we had very good breakfasts and two of our five dinners looked out over the dock itself with the ancient town visible on the far side. Two niggles relate to the bathroom: there was only one hand towel for two people (company policy I understand), and the soap dispensers ran out twice.

Other reviewers have commented adversely on the car parking arrangements. This really is not a problem. You can unload the car right in front of the front door, and the receptionist will direct you to a municipal car park less than 5 minutes walk away. It is FREE! Try doing that in London.

Vert clean and very quiet inside the hotel. No problem sleeping, and I'm a light sleeper. The receptionist was very polite courteous and very helpful. The room I had was exceptionally clean. I would definitely stay here again. The only problem is there is no car park. Had to use a free car park about 5 minutes walk away.

The hotel is located in a handy place for everything in Caernarfon. It was quiet, friendly and had a comfortable double bed for me on my own. I was surprised that they re-imbursed me. I had to cancel my final night and breakfast as my elderly dad had a fall at home so had to go home earlier, they re-imbursed the cost of that at once without fuss,.

I stay at Premier Inn's most weeks, its such a shame that this brand gets tarnished but some of their hotels. I feel compelled to back up the facts that previous guests have written before me.

1. No onsite parking - the hotel seemed to pride themselves on having free parking, however it is a council car park which is a good 5 minutes walk away, not the best.

2. Smile! - Was welcomed (or not as the case may be) by what looked like the manager and a new member of staff learning the ropes behind reception and was not even acknowledged until another member of staff appeared a few seconds later. He looked very stressed and grumpy, not someone who should be working in hospitality.

3. Not a great sleep - Now this one isn't really their fault but their is a large Morrisions supermarket across the road and they seem to take deliveries between 2 and 4 am, and it sounded like Paul and Barry Chuckle making the deliveries. Again not the best, even with the double glazing! Future guests beware!

4. Breakfast - Worst I have had in a Prem Inn for a while. Front of house staff struggling with the number of people eating, even though the place was only around 30-40% full at the time. I only ordered some poached eggs on toast with bacon and it took nearly 15 minutes to arrive (i know it could of been worse) and when it did arrive my toast looked like it had been cooked on Mount Doom and my eggs poached to within an inch of their lives. (see photo)

I will be visiting caenarfon again in a few weeks, but I will be staying elsewhere.

Oh and "Management" please don't bother with one of your obviously ready made, copy and pasted " It really matters to us / your thoughts will be passed on" responses, they are just insulting.

Room Tip: Try and get any room that is not facing the road.

We stayed here for one night in June and wasn't disappointed. The hotel is in a brilliant location and is very close to the town centre. It has bars, cafés and restaurants very close and the rooms were extremely clean and comfortable, better than expected from a budget hotel. Would definitely stay again, we loved Caernarfon!

Had a nice 2 night stay here. Rooms clean and comfortable, air conditioning a big bonus. Good location on the harbour for lovely evening walks. Only problem was no parking on site, it was only a short walk across from the hotel but was a pay and display, free overnight but you had to put a ticket on from 8am so no lie in!!! Breakfasts usual good choice and staff friendly and helpful.

This hotel is in an excellent position for visiting Caernarfon. No need to use the car just park it up and leave it. Would recommend a trip on the welsh highland railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. The hotel was excellent value for the money.
